Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 8, 2024, Calcutta – Speculation is mounting regarding the purpose of India’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval’s, imminent visit to Russia. This visit comes on the heels of recent diplomatic activities aimed at addressing the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
India has actively sought to mediate in the Ukraine-Russia conflict, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ukraine marking a significant diplomatic move. During his visit, Modi conveyed a strong message advocating for peace and emphasized that war is not a viable solution to international disputes. Following this, India has consistently called for a resolution to the conflict and has emerged as a potential mediator on the global stage.
Ajit Doval’s visit to Russia is expected to include participation in the upcoming BRICS National Security Advisers (NSA) meeting. However, sources suggest that his presence might also be linked to behind-the-scenes negotiations or strategic discussions beyond the official BRICS agenda. The speculation is further fueled by recent high-level diplomatic exchanges, including a phone conversation between Prime Minister Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin last month.
As India continues its diplomatic efforts, Doval’s visit could play a crucial role in shaping the future dynamics of the conflict and India’s position as a mediator. The exact details of his mission remain under wraps, but the visit is anticipated to have significant implications for international relations and the ongoing peace efforts.

In his resignation letter addressed to TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, Sarkar also announced his decision to withdraw from politics altogether.
The resignation comes amid heightened political tensions and public unrest surrounding the RG Kar case. Sarkar’s decision is particularly significant as he has been a prominent figure in Delhi politics, having served in various capacities as a central bureaucrat. His departure is expected to place additional pressure on the ruling party, given his extensive experience and influence.
Sarkar’s resignation follows a period of intense scrutiny and protest related to the RG Kar incident. Earlier, TMC MP Sukhendushekhar Roy had publicly supported the protestors, aligning himself with their demands. This move has fueled speculation and debate within political circles about the ruling party’s handling of the situation.
In his resignation letter, Sarkar cited the RG Kar case as a major factor in his decision to step down. He expressed deep concerns about the government’s response to the incident and questioned its handling of the situation. Two Coaches of Somnath Express Derail in Jabalpur; No Casualties Reported
Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 7, 2024, Jabalpur:
Two coaches of the Somnath Express (train number 22191) derailed early Saturday morning at Jabalpur railway station in Madhya Pradesh, adding to a series of recent train accidents across the country. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported.West Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Harshit Srivastava provided details of the incident, stating, “The train was coming from Indore and was approaching platform number six at Jabalpur railway station when two of its coaches derailed. Thankfully, all passengers are safe, and no injuries or fatalities have occurred.” He further mentioned that the cause of the derailment is still unknown, and a thorough investigation has been initiated to determine the reasons behind the accident.
The derailment occurred just 200 meters after the train had left the station. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud noise as the coaches derailed. However, because the train was moving at a low speed, a major disaster was averted. Railway officials promptly arrived at the scene to assess the situation and began work to remove the derailed coaches. As a result of the incident, train movement on the affected line has been disrupted, causing delays.
The recent spate of train accidents has raised serious concerns about passenger safety on the Indian Railways. Over the past month alone, more than 10 train accidents have occurred in different parts of the country, prompting citizens to voice concerns over what they perceive as declining safety standards. Many people have begun to refer to Indian Railways as a ‘death train,’ criticizing the authorities for not taking adequate steps to prevent such incidents.
Passengers on the Somnath Express were visibly shaken by the derailment. Some described the panic that set in immediately following the accident, with many fearing for their safety. However, the quick response by the railway officials helped calm the situation.
This incident has once again put a spotlight on the safety protocols of the Indian Railways. While an investigation is underway, there is a growing demand from the public for the government and railway authorities to take stringent measures to improve safety standards and prevent future accidents.
The Railway Ministry is expected to release a statement soon regarding the findings of the investigation and any actions that will be taken to enhance passenger safety. For now, railway services in the affected area remain partially disrupted as efforts to restore normal operations continue.
Amit Shah Sends Strong Message to Pakistan During Jammu and Kashmir Election Campaign
Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 7, 2024, Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah delivered a stern message to Pakistan while campaigning for the Jammu and Kashmir elections on Saturday, stating, “There is no negotiation with Pakistan until it walks the path of peace.” Addressing an election rally, Shah emphasized the importance of this election, calling on voters to “vote with an oath.” He described the election as crucial from all perspectives.
During his speech, Shah launched a scathing attack on the opposition parties in Jammu and Kashmir, saying, “We have made people aware of the divisive agenda of the National Conference and the Congress.” He claimed that peace had returned to several areas, including Jammu, Rajouri, and Poonch, and criticized Congress and National Conference leaders for suggesting the release of those accused of stone-pelting from jail, which he argued would disturb the peace and create unrest.
Referring to the abrogation of Article 370, Shah stated that the removal of this article had restored rights to the mothers and sisters of Jammu and Kashmir after 70 years, which the Congress and National Conference are now trying to take away. He further claimed that nearly a decade after Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, much of the terrorism in the Kashmir Valley had been eradicated.
The Election Commission has announced that voting for the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will be held in 90 seats across three phases. The voting is scheduled to take place in 24 constituencies on September 18, 26 constituencies on September 25, and 40 constituencies on October 1, with the counting of votes set for October 8.
ED Traces Additional Properties of Sandeep Ghosh in Kolkata
Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 7, 2024, Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has traced additional properties belonging to Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, uncovering a house named ‘Ghosh Villa’ in Beleghata, along with several flats in New Town, Kolkata.
The ED has discovered two more flats near Beleghata ID Hospital, close to the four-storey house where Sandeep Ghosh resided in Beleghata. These flats reportedly include a garage with a luxury car. The caretakers of these two flats confirmed they belong to Sandeep Ghosh, although there was little activity in these properties, and they have remained closed for an extended period.
Moreover, a new luxury three-storey house named ‘Ghosh Villa’ has been uncovered in the Noapara Mallik Bagan Hatiara area of Kolkata’s New Town. This house is where Sandeep Ghosh’s parents lived. The caretaker of the Beleghata flat told reporters that Sandeep Ghosh bought the car a few months ago and would occasionally use it, parking it in the garage.
Curiously, while the nameplates of luxury flats in Canning bear clear identification, the nameplates for the two flats in Beleghata do not display any names. This has led to speculation that Sandeep Ghosh may have deliberately omitted his name to conceal his ownership.
On Friday, ED officials searched the residences of several of Ghosh’s relatives, including his house in Beleghata. Following an extensive search, the ED arrested a person named Prasun Chattopadhyay. The ED is investigating where the money from the financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College went and whether this extensive property was purchased in line with Sandeep Ghosh’s legitimate income.
In another development, the State Medical Council has issued a notice to Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, condemning his actions as the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. As a result, Ghosh’s troubles have deepened. Last Friday, the Medical Council informed him that if a satisfactory response is not provided within three days, his medical registration will be canceled. However, it should be noted that the health department had already suspended Sandeep Ghosh earlier.
Governor Likely to Withhold Clearance for ‘Aparajita’ Bill, Citing Lack of Technical Report from State Government
Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Kolkata, September 6, 2024: West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose has indicated that Raj Bhavan may not give its assent to the ‘Aparajita’ Bill, recently passed by the state assembly, due to procedural lapses by the state government. The Governor has pointed out that the bill, aimed at protecting the rights of unprivileged women and children, was submitted without the requisite technical report, a critical document needed for his approval.
In a statement issued from Raj Bhavan, Governor Bose made it clear that without the necessary technical documentation, the bill cannot be cleared. “No technical report has been sent by the state with this bill, which is necessary for giving clearance to the bill. Despite knowing that, the state has not sent any technical report,” stated the Governor. The Governor further criticized the state government, alleging that this is not the first time such a procedural lapse has occurred, and he suggested that the state is well aware of these requirements but has chosen to ignore them.
The Governor also noted that the ‘Aparajita’ Bill is not unique, but rather an imitation of similar women’s protection bills currently pending with the President of India, including those from Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Maharashtra. “The Aparajita Bill of Bengal is nothing new. It is just an imitation of Andhra, Arunachal, Maharashtra Women’s Protection Bills. These bills are now lying with the President. The Chief Minister deliberately brought such bills despite knowing it,” said Governor Bose.
The statement from Raj Bhavan has highlighted a growing tension between the Governor’s office and the state administration. “It is the duty of the state government to send its technical report along with the bill. The state government has not sent it. This is not the first time that the state government has blamed the Raj Bhavan for withholding the bill despite not sending the technical report several times,” the statement read.
The Governor reportedly communicated his concerns directly to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, advising the state to conduct thorough homework before introducing bills in the assembly. This move has sparked a fresh political confrontation between the Raj Bhavan and the ruling Trinamool Congress government.
As per legislative procedures in India, after a bill is passed by a state assembly, it is sent to the Governor for approval. If the Governor signs the bill, it becomes law. However, if the Governor withholds assent or does not take a decision on the bill for a prolonged period, the bill may be sent to the President of India for final approval. In this case, the Governor’s reservations could potentially lead to such an escalation, delaying the implementation of the bill.
The ‘Aparajita’ Bill, officially titled the “Unprivileged Women and Children Bill,” was unanimously passed by the West Bengal State Assembly last Tuesday. Following its passage, the Leader of the Opposition, Subhendu Adhikari, expressed his support, stating, “As a responsible opposition, we will help pass the bill.” However, with the Governor’s reservations coming to light, the political dynamics have taken a sharp turn.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has responded by urging opposition leaders to put pressure on the Governor to clear the bill. “Opposition leaders should ask the Governor to approve the bill soon,” said Banerjee, emphasizing the urgency of the matter.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Mahila Morcha, the women’s wing of the ruling party, has threatened to stage a dharna (sit-in protest) in front of the Raj Bhavan if the bill does not receive clearance. The announcement from the Mahila Morcha signals the potential for heightened political drama in the coming days, as tensions between the Raj Bhavan and the state government continue to rise.
The fate of the ‘Aparajita’ Bill now hangs in the balance. If the Governor withholds his assent or sends the bill back for reconsideration, the state government may need to address the technical deficiencies pointed out by the Governor. Alternatively, if the bill is sent to the President of India, it could face further delays, given that similar bills from other states are already pending at that level.
As both the state government and Raj Bhavan brace for the next steps, the standoff over the ‘Aparajita’ Bill is becoming a key test of governance and political maneuvering in West Bengal. The outcome will not only affect the bill’s future but could also have broader implications for state-center relations and the functioning of democratic institutions in the state.

ED raids houses of ex-principal of RG Kar hospital, aides over financial irregularities
MP, 6 September 2024, Kolkata: Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers on Friday conducted simultaneous search operations at the residences of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and three of his associates in connection with alleged financial irregularities at the institute, an officer said.
This decision followed a petition by Dr. Akhtar Ali, the former deputy superintendent of the facility, who sought an investigation by the ED into multiple allegations of financial misconduct during Ghosh’s tenure as principal.
Ghosh served as principal from February 2021 to September 2023. He was briefly transferred from RG Kar in October 2023 but was reinstated within a month. Dr. Ali had raised concerns that the corruption at RG Kar hospital might be linked to the doctor’s death, suggesting that the victim was aware of the misconduct and might have threatened to expose it.
