Dilip Ghosh Marries Rinku Majumdar in Traditional Vedic Ceremony, Fulfilling Mother’s Wish and Embracing New Chapter

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Kolkata, April 18, 2025 :

Former BJP state president, ex-MP, and former MLA Dilip Ghosh tied the knot with party colleague Rinku Majumdar in an intimate wedding ceremony at his residence in New Town on Friday evening. The event, held as per Vedic rituals, was attended only by close family members and a few well-wishers, in keeping with Ghosh’s preference for simplicity.

Clad in traditional Bengali attire and donning a ceremonial ‘topor,’ the 60-year-old political leader appeared before the media after the rituals, expressing gratitude to all who had extended their blessings. “I thank everyone for their blessings. My personal life will not impact my political responsibilities,” Ghosh stated, adding that the marriage was a step taken in fulfilment of his mother’s long-standing wish.

This marks Ghosh’s first marriage and the second for 51-year-old Rinku Majumdar, who has a 25-year-old son from her previous marriage. A homemaker and long-time BJP functionary, Rinku has been associated with the party since 2013 and met Ghosh during morning walks at Eco Park in 2021. Although they initially shared only brief interactions, their relationship gradually deepened. It was during an IPL match at Eden Gardens on April 3, watched together with Rinku’s family from Box No. 11, that the couple reportedly decided to formalize their bond.

“I proposed, and I’m proud he eventually accepted,” said Majumdar. According to her, she was drawn to Ghosh’s values and clarity, especially as someone who respected her political ambitions and shared a common space in New Town. She revealed that she had proposed marriage in September 2024, and after some deliberation, Ghosh agreed in December.

Ghosh, a lifelong bachelor until now and a long-serving member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has played a significant role in West Bengal politics. Known for his straightforward approach, those close to him see this decision as a continuation of his bold, independent choices.

The wedding drew attention from across the political spectrum. Senior BJP leaders, including state unit president Sukanta Majumdar, visited the couple to convey their wishes. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sent flowers and a congratulatory note, while Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari declined to comment.

Sources indicate that not everyone within the Sangh Parivar welcomed the development, though Ghosh appears unfazed. He is scheduled to visit his hometown, Kharagpur, on Saturday and is also expected to attend a political event in Dumdum, signaling his continued engagement with party work.

When asked about honeymoon plans, Ghosh responded with his trademark humour, “It will happen somewhere in India.”

As messages continue to pour in, the couple’s quiet yet significant step has made waves in the political landscape, blending personal fulfilment with public curiosity—while reinforcing Ghosh’s commitment to both family and political life.

A key moment in their evolving relationship occurred on April 3 at Eden Gardens during a Kolkata Knight Riders IPL match. Ghosh, Rinku, her son, and extended family were seen together in Box No. 11 of the clubhouse—a sight that many now recognize as the quiet confirmation of their impending marriage.

While some within political and social circles were taken by surprise, many close to Ghosh viewed his decision as yet another example of his independent thinking and personal conviction. “His fiancée, Rinku di, proposed to him after he lost the Lok Sabha election last year… It was there, at Eden Gardens, that the final decision was made,” shared a close associate of Ghosh.

In an interview following the wedding announcement, Ghosh emphasized that the marriage was deeply personal and driven by a desire to fulfill his mother’s long-standing wish. “My mother wanted me to get married, so to honour her wish, I am tying the knot. I will continue to be in active politics as I was before. My personal life will have no impact on my political work,” he stated.

Rinku, speaking candidly about their journey, shared that although she proposed in September, Ghosh took time to deliberate and finally agreed in December. Despite well-wishes from across party lines—including Chinchura MLA Asit Majumdar, who described Ghosh as a respected leader and wished him happiness—a section within the Sangh Parivar has reportedly expressed reservations about the marriage.

Ghosh, a longtime member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has served the organisation in various roles throughout his political career. His decision to marry, after decades of public service and bachelorhood, marks a significant personal milestone and has stirred conversation across political and social circles.

Nonetheless, both Ghosh and Majumdar have made it clear that their commitment to public service will remain unchanged as they step into this new phase of life together.

NHRC to Visit Murshidabad Amid Rising Tensions and Human Rights Violations

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Kolkata, April 16, 2025:
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has decided to send a team to Murshidabad following widespread unrest and allegations of human rights violations linked to violent protests against the Waqf Act. The move comes after a series of violent incidents, including the tragic deaths of four individuals, including a father and son, in Shamsherganj. The NHRC team is expected to conduct an on-site investigation and submit a report within three weeks.

The unrest, which has rocked several areas of Murshidabad, including Suti, Dhulian, Shamsherganj, and Jangipur, has caused significant distress to the local population. Many residents have been displaced, with numerous families seeking refuge in camps in the neighbouring Malda district. In its statement, the NHRC expressed grave concern over the murders of the father and son in Shamsherganj and the alleged lack of police action in response to these incidents.

The NHRC has instructed its Investigation Division to form a special team to visit Murshidabad and examine the situation firsthand. “Amidst the protests against the Waqf Act, news reports on social media have alleged that a father and son were murdered. It is also claimed that the police failed to take appropriate action,” the NHRC stated in its official letter to the DG of the Investigation Division. The team will be tasked with investigating the violence and providing a comprehensive report within the next three weeks.

In addition to the deaths, the violence surrounding the Waqf Act protests has resulted in widespread human rights violations, particularly against Hindus, according to local sources. The NHRC team is expected to visit several affected areas to take stock of the situation and assess the scale of the alleged violations.

Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who visited the local hospital to meet injured victims, condemned the state’s handling of the situation. Speaking to the media, Chowdhury claimed that the actual scale of the violence was far worse than what was being reported by the administration. He revealed that he had met with several victims, including three people who had suffered gunshot wounds during the clashes in Samserganj.

One of the victims, a young boy of around 11 or 12 years, had sustained severe injuries to his right kidney and was in critical condition, according to Chowdhury. “I met one boy who was hit by a bullet while he went out to buy medicine for his mother. The bullet is still lodged in his body,” Chowdhury said, adding that the government was not revealing the true number of injured victims.

Chowdhury also lashed out at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, criticizing her for not visiting the affected areas in Murshidabad. “Why is the CM not visiting Jangipur? Her teams can travel to Hathras and Manipur, but why not to Murshidabad? Is it because it’s not a priority?” he asked.

In a more alarming development, preliminary reports from the Union Home Ministry have suggested the possible involvement of Bangladeshi miscreants in fueling the violence in Murshidabad. While the Centre has yet to release an official statement, sources indicate that the violence was exacerbated by external elements. The report also criticizes the West Bengal Police for failing to control the situation effectively.

The violence erupted during protests demanding the repeal of the Waqf Act and quickly escalated into clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement officers. At least three people have been confirmed dead, and several others have been injured, with multiple areas in Murshidabad resembling conflict zones.

In response to the growing unrest, the authorities have deployed Border Security Force (BSF) personnel starting Friday night, followed by paramilitary forces on Saturday night, as per a Calcutta High Court directive. Despite these measures, the situation remains tense, with ongoing violence and frequent skirmishes between police and protesters.

The ongoing conflict has forced many residents, especially women and children, to flee their homes. A large number of displaced people have taken shelter in schools across the Malda district, particularly in the Vaishnavnagar area. Local authorities are scrambling to provide relief and ensure the safety of those who have been affected by the violence.

The NHRC’s decision to send a team to Murshidabad is seen as an urgent response to the growing human rights concerns in the region. With the situation continuing to evolve, all eyes are on the commission’s investigation and the measures the state government will take to restore order and protect the rights of the affected communities.

SSC to Finalize Eligibility List by April 21, Says Bratya Basu Amid Unemployed Teachers’ Protest

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, April 14, 2025, Kolkata: Following a high-level meeting at Vikas Bhavan on Friday, Education Minister Bratya Basu assured unemployed teaching aspirants that the School Service Commission (SSC) has already begun preparing a detailed list of eligible and ineligible candidates. The announcement comes amid ongoing protests and persistent demands from those affected by recruitment irregularities.

Twelve representatives of the unemployed teachers attended the nearly three-hour-long meeting with the Education Minister and SSC officials. According to those present, several key concerns were addressed during the session. The SSC chairman informed the attendees that the process of listing eligible and ineligible candidates is currently underway and is expected to be completed by next Friday. The Commission has tentatively committed to making the list public by April 21.

One of the major points raised by the representatives was the demand for the publication of the ‘mirror image’ of the OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) answer sheets, which many believe could offer transparency in the evaluation process. However, the Commission reportedly clarified that it does not currently possess the ‘mirror image’ records.

In another significant development, teachers dismissed following the Supreme Court’s directives stated that the SSC has mentioned seeking the assistance of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in this matter. They were also informed that the official transcripts related to the recruitment process would be released.

While many welcomed the steps taken, concerns remain about the potential social consequences of publicly disclosing the list of ineligible candidates. Some apprehend that such a move could lead to unrest. The situation continues to evolve, with stakeholders across the education sector closely monitoring the developments as the April 21 deadline approaches.

Mid-Day Meal Stalled at Bagdar Kanyara Yadav Chandra High School Amid Absence of Principal and Unpaid Dues

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, April 14, 2025, Kolkata: The mid-day meal scheme at Bagdar Kanyara Yadav Chandra High School in North 24 Parganas has remained suspended since February, raising concerns among parents, students, and the local community. The issue appears rooted in prolonged administrative negligence, with the school’s principal reportedly absent for nearly one and a half years while continuing to draw a salary.

In the principal’s absence, the acting headmaster has taken on the responsibility of managing day-to-day operations at the school. However, the inability to access or disburse funds allocated for the mid-day meal has led to growing financial liabilities. According to local sources, approximately ₹58,000 is owed to suppliers of essential commodities such as groceries, raw food materials, and fuel. Local vendors, citing the outstanding dues, have refused further supply, resulting in the complete suspension of the mid-day meal.

The acting headmaster has submitted formal communications to the Block Development Officer (BDO) and Sub-Inspector (SI) of schools, requesting relief or guidance in managing the scheme under the current circumstances. He stated that a meeting had been convened by the BDO to address the matter and find a solution; however, the principal failed to attend the session, further delaying potential resolution.

BDO Prasun Pramanik confirmed the headmaster’s prolonged absence and acknowledged the challenges this has created in continuing the mid-day meal program. He emphasized that while discussions have been initiated to address the issue, the lack of cooperation from the school’s leadership has stalled progress.

The situation has sparked frustration among fellow educators and guardians, who express concern over the impact on students’ well-being. With mounting pressure from the community, stakeholders await decisive intervention to ensure the timely restoration of the vital nutrition program.

Abhishek Banerjee Urges Peace Amid Waqf Act Protests, Condemns Attempts to ‘Burn Bengal’

Baby Chakraborty | KalimNews | Kolkata | April 12, 2025 : As tensions rise in parts of West Bengal over protests related to the Waqf Act, leading to incidents of violence in districts such as Murshidabad, Hooghly, and South 24 Parganas, political discourse in the state has intensified. The ongoing unrest has already claimed three lives, prompting strong reactions from both the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of administrative failure.

Amid the mounting tensions, Trinamool Congress National General Secretary and Member of Parliament Abhishek Banerjee addressed the issue publicly on Saturday. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a private hospital in Sodepur, he criticized those fueling unrest, stating, “Some people want to burn Bengal. They are unable to accept the state’s progress and success, and so they are trying to incite division among communities based on religion.”

Urging restraint and unity, Banerjee emphasized the importance of maintaining Bengal’s longstanding cultural fabric. “I stand here today to appeal to everyone listening—do not forget the culture of Bengal. Let peace and harmony prevail in every corner. Do not allow injustice to take root, and remain vigilant against those attempting to spread disorder,” he said.

In response to the growing violence, the Calcutta High Court has ordered the deployment of central forces in the affected districts, including Murshidabad, to ensure law and order. Simultaneously, administrative scrutiny continues over allegations of irregularities in housing project fund allocations. Banerjee commented on the issue, asserting that while action should be taken against the ineligible, it would be unjust to penalize thousands of deserving candidates due to the misconduct of a few. “This is not fair,” he stated.

The situation remains tense, with state authorities and the judiciary closely monitoring developments. Political leaders across parties are being called upon to exercise responsibility in ensuring public safety and communal harmony during this sensitive time.

Kasba Incident Sparks Debate as SI Riton Das’s Family Claims Self-Defense Amid Viral Image Controversy

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews | April 12, 2025 | Kolkata : In the aftermath of the Kasba incident, where a viral image captured Sub-Inspector Riton Das appearing to kick teachers during an official police raid, the family of the officer has spoken out, asserting that the act was one of self-defense. The image, which has circulated widely across social media platforms and digital news outlets, has triggered significant public scrutiny, including criticism and speculation regarding the officer’s professional conduct and background.

According to his parents, Jyotindra Kumar Das and Deepali Das, the event unfolded under extreme provocation. Speaking to reporters at their residence in Jhaukhali under the Shambhungar Gram Panchayat in Gosaba on Friday, they maintained that Riton Das was compelled to react in order to protect himself. They alleged that during the incident, the officer was manhandled—his clothes were pulled, his uniform was nearly torn off, and he was subjected to verbal and physical harassment—leaving him no alternative but to act in defense.

Sub-Inspector Riton Das, an officer of the 2010 batch, is currently posted at Kasba police station following a transfer during last year’s election season. Before his present assignment, he served at New Alipore and Behala police stations. During his tenure in Behala, he led investigations in a widely reported case in which a deceased woman’s body was found preserved in a refrigerator for over three years. While posted in New Alipore, he cracked a high-profile burglary case in a luxury residence and successfully apprehended the suspect from Jalandhar.

Despite his prior record and recognition, the public reaction to the Kasba incident has cast a shadow over his reputation. The image showing him in a seemingly aggressive act has gone viral and become the subject of extensive debate online, including sarcastic and critical commentary. The issue has also reignited concerns around policing practices and law enforcement response protocols.

Riton Das, who resides with his wife and young daughter at the police quarters in the Banshdroni area, frequently visits his family home in Gosaba. Locals and acquaintances from his childhood have expressed disbelief over the incident, describing him as a disciplined, academically inclined, and soft-spoken individual.

While no official statement has yet been issued by the police department regarding the incident, the viral image continues to provoke mixed reactions. Meanwhile, his family stands firm in defense of his actions, emphasizing that the response was necessitated by the immediate threat faced during duty and urging the public to consider the context before forming judgments.

Unemployed Teachers in Bengal Turn to Roses, Redefine Protest with Dignity and Peace

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, April 11, 2025, Kolkata: In a remarkable display of dignity, patience, and purpose, teachers and education workers who lost their jobs took to the streets of Kolkata on Friday with a powerful yet peaceful form of protest. Departing from the usual images of agitations, hunger strikes, or confrontations with law enforcement, these educators chose to carry red roses, not placards, and handed them gently to police officers on duty.

Undeterred by the sweltering heat and gusty winds, they stood united in silent resistance — not to provoke, but to remind society of the values they once imparted in classrooms. With this symbolic act, they sent a message that resonated far beyond the streets: that educators are not merely professionals, but the moral compass of a civil society. “Teachers do not just teach, they also educate,” was the silent message woven through the calm gestures of the day.

A senior police officer present at the site of the demonstration expressed deep respect, saying, “I am impressed by such peaceful protests. I understand their pain, and today’s work touched my heart.” He reflected on the ongoing struggle of these teachers — job losses followed by court battles, repeated demonstrations, and now, this poignant plea for justice delivered with the quiet strength of educators.

The protest marked a notable shift in tone, elevating the discourse surrounding employment and justice in the education sector. Where once there was unrest, there now stood a quiet assertion of democratic expression. The red rose, handed with grace, became more than a flower — it emerged as a symbol of love, education, and a democracy that listens.

Observers noted that the protest stirred both emotion and introspection, urging society to ask: should those who nurture the minds of future generations be forced to plead on the streets for their rights? In the calm of their demonstration, Bengal’s unemployed teachers left behind not only the fragrance of roses, but a lesson in the true spirit of education and the enduring strength of peaceful protest.

Court Denies Permission for Hanuman Jayanti Event on Red Road, Seeks Affidavits from Both Sides

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, April 11, 2025, Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Friday denied immediate permission to the Hindu Seva Dal to hold a Hanuman Jayanti program on Red Road, a historically sensitive stretch in central Kolkata, citing the need for further legal examination and historical context.

The Hindu Seva Dal had approached the court after their request to conduct a religious gathering on April 12, from 5 AM to 11 AM, involving around 3,000 participants, was met with objections from the police. The organization expressed its intention to recite the Hanuman Chalisa at the venue, citing that Red Road is also used for religious gatherings by other communities, including the annual Eid prayers held there in the presence of top state officials, including the Chief Minister.

During the hearing, Justice Tirthankar Ghosh firmly stated that the court cannot permit the event at this stage and instructed that a proper affidavit must be submitted. The state has been given a deadline of six weeks to file its response, after which the petitioner will have two weeks to reply. The matter will next be heard in July.

The court questioned the basis of the demand, asking the petitioner’s counsel why this particular event should be allowed on Red Road, especially considering that it is being proposed for the first time. In response to the assertion that members of other communities have held religious events at the same location, Justice Ghosh provided a historical perspective. He noted that the Eid congregation on Red Road has roots dating back to the Khilafat Movement in 1919. Originally held at the Shaheed Minar grounds, the gathering was shifted to Red Road around 1998 or 1999 due to waterlogging issues and has since continued as a long-standing tradition for over a century.

While the petitioners argued that the army has already given its permission for the gathering, the judge maintained that the matter requires a more detailed examination within a legal and historical framework before any precedent is considered or set. The court’s stance reflects a cautious approach, emphasizing public order, administrative preparedness, and legal consistency in the use of prominent public spaces for large religious gatherings.

Firhad Hakim Rejects Implementation of New Waqf Act in Bengal Amid Rising Statewide Protests

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Kolkata, April 10, 2025

: Amid intensifying protests across West Bengal against the recently enacted Waqf Act, State Municipal and Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim has publicly declared that the law will not be implemented in the state. The statement, made during a press interaction following a review meeting at MKD in Midnapore on Wednesday, has sparked a fresh round of constitutional debate and political contention.

The new Waqf Act, already passed in Parliament and signed into law by the President, has triggered opposition in various parts of Bengal, particularly in regions such as Jangipur and Suti in Murshidabad, where unrest and phased protests have been reported. Demonstrators argue that the Act infringes upon the constitutional rights of minority communities regarding their properties.

Addressing reporters after the development review meeting, Firhad Hakim reaffirmed the state government’s stance against the legislation. “A resolution was passed in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly opposing the Waqf Bill. Despite that, the Bill was passed, which we consider wrong and unconstitutional,” he stated. “The Constitution clearly states that the property of minorities must remain in their hands. The new law violates this principle.”

Hakim alleged that the law is politically motivated, claiming, “This is a BJP move aimed at securing both Hindu and Muslim votes. We will strongly oppose this.” He also reiterated that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is committed to maintaining religious harmony and will not implement any policy that could upset minority communities. “There is no question of this law being enforced in Bengal,” he emphasized.

However, the Minister’s assertion has raised questions about constitutional propriety, as states are not authorized to repeal or ignore a Central law once it has been enacted and signed into law by the President. Legal experts caution that the refusal to implement the Act could lead to a constitutional standoff between the state and the Centre.

Meanwhile, the review meeting in Midnapore also covered several local infrastructure and development projects concerning Midnapore and Kharagpur. Discussions focused on expediting delayed initiatives through coordinated efforts of the Midnapore-Kharagpur Development Board.

As the state government holds firm in its opposition to the Waqf Act, the political and legal dimensions of the issue are expected to evolve, potentially reaching higher judicial forums if the implementation stalemate continues. The unfolding situation highlights the deepening rift between state and central authorities over minority welfare policies and the limits of state resistance within the federal structure.

High Court Greenlights Eviction of Illegal Hawkers from Serampore Station Area

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Kolkata, April 10, 2025 :The Calcutta High Court has upheld the railway authority’s decision to evict illegal hawkers from Serampore railway station and its adjoining areas in Hooghly district, marking a key legal milestone in the Centre’s ongoing ‘Amrit Bharat’ railway modernization project.

During a hearing on Thursday, Justice Amrita Sinha ruled that the eviction notices issued by the Eastern Railway were valid and required no judicial intervention. This came after the court had previously instructed the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Howrah to offer hawkers a chance to submit documentation proving their legal right to conduct business at the station premises. However, according to submissions made in court by the Additional Solicitor General, not a single hawker could present valid authorization or licenses during the verification process.

In light of this, the High Court determined that the railway authority’s plan to remove encroachments was lawful and could proceed without further delay. The operation is expected to commence soon as part of the wider infrastructural revamp under the ‘Amrit Bharat’ project.

Opposition to the move had been led by the Eastern Railway Howrah Division Hawker Union, backed by the Trinamool Congress, which filed a case challenging the eviction notice. Represented in court by advocate Sarhanya Banerjee, the union argued that the hawkers had been conducting their business at the location for many years. Though they lacked formal licenses, they were residents of the area, and the station stalls were their sole means of livelihood.

Despite acknowledging these humanitarian concerns, the court maintained that operating on railway premises without legal sanction could not be allowed, especially when adequate notice and opportunity had been provided to prove legitimacy.

With the judicial clearance now in place, the Serampore eviction drive is poised to begin imminently. The development has sparked mixed reactions — while railway officials and passengers welcomed the move citing safety and decongestion benefits, hawkers and their families face uncertainty as their businesses face removal.

This ruling underscores the judiciary’s emphasis on lawful land use while also putting the spotlight on the recurring tension between development imperatives and the informal economy’s survival.

Their selection into ISRO’s elite training program marks the beginning of what promises to be an inspiring scientific journey, and their success serves as a motivational milestone for countless students across the state who dare to dream beyond the stars.

Police Action Fails to Deter Agitation by Jobless Teachers Outside SSC Office

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Kolkata, April 10, 2025 : Tensions escalated outside the School Service Commission (SSC) office, also known as Acharya Sadan, on Wednesday night as police used force to disperse a group of jobless teachers staging a protest. Despite police baton charges and physical confrontation, including reports of some officers kicking protesters, the demonstrators remained undeterred and vowed to continue their agitation.

The protest, which reignited late Wednesday evening just before 10 PM, saw a group of job aspirants gathering outside the SSC office demanding transparency and justice in the teacher recruitment process. Protesters stated their intent to spend the night at the protest site and reiterated their core demands, including the publication of the mirror image of their Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets and the release of the list of ineligible candidates.

Following the onset of the protest, police arrived at the location and attempted to engage with the demonstrators. In a bid to enforce legal compliance, authorities posted a notice outside Acharya Sadan under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), a provision often invoked to disperse unlawful gatherings. However, the protesters made it clear that they had no intention of leaving the premises.

The demonstration drew political attention as well, with BJP Member of Parliament and former judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay arriving at the protest site during the night to show solidarity with the demonstrators. His presence further emboldened the protestors, who criticized the government for its silence and refusal to meet their demands.

“Our only demand is for the mirror image of the OMR sheet to be published. We will not stop until that happens,” one protester declared, emphasizing their determination to continue the sit-in protest. Many of the demonstrators expressed that the only way forward was complete transparency in the recruitment process — a demand that, so far, the state government has been unwilling to concede.

This renewed wave of protest adds to the ongoing turmoil surrounding teacher recruitment in West Bengal, a contentious issue that has seen widespread legal, political, and social ramifications over the past year. As the protest continues outside Acharya Sadan, public attention remains fixed on how the state government will respond in the coming days.

Crisis Looms Over West Bengal Schools as Supreme Court Verdict Results in Mass Teacher Layoffs

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, April 8,  2025, Kolkata :  West Bengal’s educational landscape is facing a significant crisis following the recent Supreme Court verdict, which has led to the cancellation of 25,752 teacher appointments, severely impacting hundreds of schools across the state. The state’s education system is already grappling with a teacher shortage, and the latest ruling has worsened the situation, leaving many schools struggling to maintain basic operations.

One such institution is Binodini High School Girls’ School in Chinchura, Hooghly, which is currently in a state of crisis. With a student body of about 1,150, the school is already operating with a reduced staff, after the layoff of three teachers and several non-teaching staff members. The headmistress, Moumita Pal, explained that the remaining teachers are now shouldering both administrative and teaching duties, in addition to their regular responsibilities. She noted that the school, which has three departments for grades five to ten, requires at least 22 teachers to run effectively. Currently, the school has just 31 teachers, but the shortage of subject-specific teachers—particularly in English, Mathematics, and Chemistry—has created additional pressure.

Other schools in the state, including Sailaja Memorial Girls’ High School in Lalgola, Murshidabad, are also facing severe staffing shortages. Headmistress Kakoli Chowdhury expressed concern over the employment of 18 teachers being canceled, leaving her school of 4,000 students without adequate faculty for essential subjects such as Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. With unit tests underway, she questioned how the school would continue to conduct examinations and maintain academic standards.

This crisis extends beyond a few schools. In other regions like Bhagabangola and Farakka, the impact of the Supreme Court’s order has been widespread. At Orahar Girls’ High School, eight out of 19 teachers have lost their jobs, and headmistress Najmun Nahar fears the school may struggle to operate once the official notifications are issued. Sekhalipur High School in Lalgola has also been hit hard, with the loss of teachers in crucial subjects like Geography and Physics. Headmaster Sahin Saraf noted that teachers at his school are vital not just for academics but also for implementing various government schemes, such as Kanyashree.

At Arjunpur High School in the Farakka block, the situation is even more dire, with 36 out of 70 teachers set to lose their positions. Faruk Abdullah, a teacher at the school, emphasized that the school has not been able to recruit new staff since 2018 and expressed concerns about the long-term viability of the school’s operations.

Despite the Supreme Court’s order for fresh examinations and a new recruitment process, many schools are uncertain whether they will receive the necessary support in time. The lack of clarity regarding the official notification and the potential delays in recruitment raise further concerns about how schools will manage in the interim, leaving students’ education hanging in the balance.

The situation underscores the urgent need for timely and effective solutions to prevent further disruptions in the education system. As schools across West Bengal face mounting challenges, it remains to be seen how the government will address the crisis and restore stability to the state’s educational institutions.

Dr. Chandrachud Goswami Offers Free Voluntary Classes to Support Education Amid Teacher Layoffs in West Bengal

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, April 8,  2025, Kolkata :  In the wake of the recent Supreme Court verdict on corruption in employment, which led to the dismissal of around twenty-six thousand teachers in West Bengal, the education sector has been thrown into disarray. The unexpected job losses have resulted in a shortage of teachers in several schools, creating concerns about potential disruptions to students’ studies. In response to this crisis, Dr. Chandrachud Goswami, the State President of the Hindu Mahasabha, has stepped forward with a selfless offer to volunteer as a teacher.

Dr. Goswami has expressed his willingness to take classes in government schools and online, completely free of charge, in order to ensure that students’ education is not hindered. He announced that he is available to teach all subjects up to the Madhyamik level, as well as biological science subjects for higher secondary and beyond, for two hours every day. His initiative aims to fill the gap created by the sudden reduction in the number of teachers, and he has called on the media to help connect students and their guardians to this opportunity, providing his contact details for those interested.

In a statement, Dr. Goswami emphasized the importance of merit in securing teaching positions. He expressed his belief that qualified individuals should not lose their jobs, as they earned their positions through hard work and merit. However, he also strongly advocated against allowing incompetent individuals to hold teaching jobs, particularly when such appointments are made through dishonest means, as this would jeopardize the future of students.

While the political landscape in the state remains tense following the Supreme Court ruling, Dr. Goswami’s offer stands out as an example of compassion and dedication to education. Surge in Demand for Raja Jute Seeds Amid High Yield and Profitability for Farmers in West Bengal

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Kolkata, April 8, 2025: Farmers across jute-growing regions in West Bengal are increasingly turning to Raja jute, with the growing awareness of its superior benefits driving demand for the ‘Raja NJ-7005’ variety. This surge in interest comes as farmers experience significant profitability, with reports indicating an additional ₹10,000 in earnings per acre for those cultivating this new variety.

The remarkable success of Raja jute has delighted Nuziveedu Seeds, the company behind the development of this high-yield variety. According to the company, the increased earnings are attributed to Raja jute’s ability to produce longer fibers and a consistent yield increase of at least 2 quintals per acre when compared to traditional varieties. Developed in 2020 by Dr. Mohammad Mosiur Rahman, the head scientist at Nuziveedu Seeds’ research division, Raja jute has rapidly transformed the landscape of jute farming in India.

Raja jute offers a combination of cost-effectiveness, higher yields, and better-quality fibers, making it an attractive choice for farmers. The plants grow two feet taller than other varieties, allowing for better yields and thicker bark, which enhances fiber quality. This increased quality and yield are also resulting in more favorable market prices for farmers, further boosting their earnings.

While jute fibers in India are typically shorter than those from Bangladesh, presenting challenges for industrial use, the NJ-7005 Raja jute variety is helping to address this issue by producing longer fibers, thereby meeting the demands of the industry more effectively.

This growing success story highlights the potential of Raja jute in reshaping the future of jute farming, contributing not only to farmers’ income but also to the broader agricultural economy of the region.

Disappointed Teacher Joins Protest Demanding Mamata Banerjee’s Resignation After Losing Job

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, April  7,  2025, Kolkata :  Tensions continued to rise in West Bengal as the ongoing sit-in protest, organized by the Jalpaiguri District Congress and Sadar Block Congress Committee, gathered momentum. The protest, which took place at the District School Inspectorate office premises, was fueled by growing demands for the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Among the protesters were teachers who had recently lost their jobs, adding personal testimonies of disillusionment to the movement.

One such teacher, Dev Priya Saha, who lost his job under controversial circumstances, expressed his frustration and disappointment. Speaking about his decision not to attend the recent meeting of unemployed teachers in Kolkata, Saha said, “I can no longer trust the Chief Minister.” He further explained that Mamata Banerjee had made promises before, but those promises had not been fulfilled, particularly regarding the decision of the Calcutta High Court. The court had ordered the separation of qualified and incompetent teachers, but Saha alleged that the government had instead combined both groups, which led to the Supreme Court’s decision to terminate the jobs of many teachers, including himself.

Saha, who had worked as a teacher, reflected on the dire situation he now faces. “If the government stops the schools today, it will be difficult for people like us to survive. My wife and I have lost our jobs,” he lamented, emphasizing the personal hardship caused by the government’s actions.

The ongoing protests are likely to intensify as more affected individuals, particularly teachers, join the movement. With the demand for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation growing louder, it remains to be seen how the state government will respond to the mounting public discontent.

Mamata Banerjee Assures Jobs for Deserving, Sparks Debate on Supreme Court Verdict

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, April  7,  2025, Kolkata : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has made a significant promise to address the issue of unemployment in the state, assuring that jobs will be provided for those who are “deserving” while maintaining adherence to the law. The statement, however, comes amidst a growing controversy following a Supreme Court verdict, creating a clear divide between the judiciary’s stance and the Chief Minister’s approach.

In a meeting held at Netaji Indoor Stadium with unemployed individuals, Mamata Banerjee assured that the government would take responsibility for providing employment opportunities within two months. She emphasized that the state would act in accordance with the law and noted that no reservations would be made, but efforts would be focused on ensuring jobs for eligible candidates. “It is the responsibility of the government to ensure jobs for those who are deserving,” she declared, adding that alternative arrangements would be made within a two-month timeline.

However, Mamata’s statement has raised concerns over its implications, especially in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling. The court has directed the state to provide a list of eligible and ineligible candidates, which has yet to be finalized. The Chief Minister stressed that unless the list is provided by the court, the verdict cannot be reconsidered, and a situation could arise that leads to “civil war” in Bengal if the list of ineligible candidates is released.

Mamata also advised unemployed teachers to consider working voluntarily, suggesting that those who have not received dismissal notices should continue contributing without formal recognition. Despite her assurances, the Chief Minister emphasized that no eligible individual would lose their job, urging the Supreme Court to provide the state with the lists of eligible and ineligible candidates for clarity and fairness.

“The Supreme Court should explain its decision. No one has the right to dismantle the education system,” Mamata remarked, expressing her concerns over the potential disruption to the state’s educational framework. She also hinted at past instances where additional posts were approved by the cabinet, although she acknowledged these decisions were controversial and legally questionable.

The situation remains tense, with many waiting to see how the state will navigate this issue in the coming months. Mamata Banerjee’s bold stance has sparked debates across the political landscape, and the outcome of these promises will likely shape the government’s future course of action. Only time will tell if the Chief Minister’s assurances will be realized or if further legal complications will arise.
