Mamata Banerjee Slams BJP, Alleges Electoral Bias, Reaffirms Bengal’s Progress at TMCP Rally

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Aug 29 2025, Kolkata : At the massive Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) Foundation Day rally held today at Mayo Road, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress Chairperson Mamata Banerjee delivered a fiery and emotional speech, touching upon her personal political struggles, institutional challenges, and Bengal’s development milestones.

Addressing a sea of supporters, Mamata Banerjee launched a direct attack on the Election Commission, accusing it of partisan behaviour. She alleged that forces she called “high-voltage viruses” were “violently withholding funds” and working in collaboration with what she termed “SIR” to strip citizens of their voting rights. “It is unfortunate that the Election Commission is playing someone’s lollipop,” she said, criticising what she sees as politically motivated targeting of migrant workers and voters.

Mamata Banerjee drew a sharp contrast between her government’s treatment of migrant labourers and that of others. “They call 22 lakh migrant workers names and torture them. But here in Bengal, we support 1.5 crore migrant workers and provide them with dignity and jobs,” she asserted, adding that under her leadership, the state had created employment for 2 crore individuals.

Revisiting her early political activism, Banerjee shared a chilling account of a near-death experience during a college election in Kolkata. She recalled how Communist Party goons allegedly abducted two boys during her speech at Ashutosh College. “I went to drink water and saw them taking the boys away. I grabbed one by the collar, but they chased me with a pipe gun,” she recounted. She described how local shopkeepers from a nearby restaurant, Srihari Mishtanna Bhandar, sheltered her. “Had they not hidden me, I wouldn’t have survived that day,” she said, visibly emotional.

Amid the political commentary, Banerjee also underscored the strides made by her administration in education. “We have spent ₹69,000 crore on building Bengal’s educational infrastructure. Kanyashree has won the highest international awards,” she stated, proudly claiming that her government’s initiatives under the leadership of Subrata Bakshi have transformed the state’s educational landscape.

She concluded by reaffirming her deep-rooted connection with the people of Bengal, saying, “My Bengali land is the best of all states. I have travelled the world, but no one knows this country better than I do.”

The rally, marking TMCP’s foundation day, served as more than just a student gathering — it became a platform for Mamata Banerjee to reassert her leadership, defend the values of her government, and issue a sharp critique of her political opponents and federal institutions.

TMC Aims for a Clean Sweep in South Dinajpur: Abhishek Banerjee’s Push to Reclaim BJP Stronghold in North Bengal

Baby Chakraborty | KalimNews | Kolkata | August 27, 2025  : As the 2026 elections loom, North Bengal has emerged as a major battleground between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In what is shaping up to be a high-stakes contest, TMC has intensified its focus on South Dinajpur — a district seen as both symbolically and strategically crucial due to its association with BJP leader and Union Minister of State, Sukanta Majumdar.

Sources indicate that Abhishek Banerjee, TMC’s All India General Secretary, has issued a clear and uncompromising directive to the district leadership: win all six assembly seats in South Dinajpur in the upcoming elections. The message, delivered during a recent organisational review, is being interpreted as both a challenge to BJP dominance in North Bengal and a matter of prestige for the ruling party.

Trinamool’s strategy appears to involve a detailed analysis of past electoral setbacks. Abhishek has reportedly ordered a constituency-wise review to identify the reasons behind previous losses, assess the impact of internal factionalism, and evaluate the performance of district leaders. The instruction is to pinpoint not just where the party fell short, but also why and who contributed to those outcomes.

Despite South Dinajpur being considered a relatively small district, its political significance is far greater. Known as Sukanta Majumdar’s home turf, the area holds symbolic weight for the BJP. The TMC’s decision to go all in on the district underscores its desire to reclaim ground and demonstrate strength in what has historically been a BJP-leaning region within North Bengal.

Abhishek Banerjee Files Counter Affidavit at Calcutta High Court Over Diamond Harbour Election Petition

Baby Chakraborty | KalimNews |  Kolkata | August 25, 2025 : Trinamool Congress All India General Secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee appeared at the Calcutta High Court on Monday morning, drawing attention and speculation over his unannounced visit. Banerjee arrived around 11 a.m., stayed for about 15 minutes, and left after completing formalities related to an election petition filed against him.

Court officials confirmed that Banerjee’s appearance was to sign and submit a counter affidavit in response to a petition filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Abhijit Das, who had contested against him in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Diamond Harbour. Several Trinamool lawyers greeted Banerjee at the court premises, with some even taking photographs with him before he departed.

Das had moved the Calcutta High Court last year, challenging the results of the Diamond Harbour constituency and alleging irregularities during the election. In the 2024 polls, Banerjee secured his third consecutive victory with 10,48,230 votes, while Das polled 3,37,300. The margin of 7,10,930 votes not only gave Banerjee a landslide win but also set a record in West Bengal for the highest margin of victory in that election.

The case gained renewed attention in April this year when the High Court directed the preservation of all election-related materials, including data, CCTV footage, and digital records from the constituency. The Election Commission and the district electoral officer were specifically instructed to maintain these records.

On August 19, the Calcutta High Court warned that an ex parte order could be passed against Banerjee if he failed to respond to the petition. While his legal team requested additional time, the court set August 28 as the final deadline for filing his reply. Monday’s court appearance was therefore crucial, as Banerjee formally filed his counter affidavit ahead of the deadline. The court has now scheduled the next hearing for September 4.

The issue has also taken on a political dimension in recent weeks. Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Anurag Thakur alleged at a press conference that a large number of ineligible voters were included in Diamond Harbour’s rolls. Trinamool Congress countered this claim, stating that Banerjee’s representatives had visited Thakur’s residence with a pen drive reportedly containing video evidence and documents refuting the allegations. Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari later echoed similar concerns, adding further weight to the opposition’s challenge.

With the matter once again active before the High Court and the assembly elections approaching, the political spotlight has returned sharply to Diamond Harbour. Banerjee’s massive 2024 victory margin remains both a point of pride for the Trinamool Congress and a source of dispute for his rivals, making the outcome of the legal proceedings significant for Bengal’s evolving political narrative.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to Begin District Tours from Tuesday Ahead of Assembly Elections

Administrative Meetings and Project Launches Set to Begin in Burdwan on August 26

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews | Kolkata | August 23, 2025 : With the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections drawing closer, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is intensifying her outreach efforts. As part of a state-wide district tour aimed at reviewing governance and mobilizing administrative machinery, she is set to visit East and West Burdwan districts on Tuesday, August 26. The visit marks the beginning of a fresh round of political and administrative engagements, underscoring the ruling party’s strategy to solidify its presence on the ground well ahead of the polls.

According to official sources, the Chief Minister will reach Burdwan on Tuesday and hold a comprehensive administrative meeting at 12 noon at the Burdwan Municipal Boys’ High School ground. The meeting will bring together senior administrative officials, elected representatives including MPs, MLAs, and other public figures from both East and West Burdwan districts.

Alongside the administrative deliberations, Mamata Banerjee will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for six major development projects in the two districts. Additionally, she is expected to hand over land deeds (pattas) to several beneficiaries during the program, furthering the government’s commitment to inclusive development and welfare delivery.

The significance of the visit goes beyond governance. With the Assembly elections less than a year away, political parties are beginning to ramp up their field-level preparations. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is moving swiftly to fortify its organizational structure, while the opposition—particularly the BJP—has also sharpened its focus on Bengal. The BJP, which views Bengal as a high-stakes battleground similar to Bihar, has already had the Prime Minister visit the state thrice this year.

Mamata Banerjee’s recent district tours reflect a two-pronged approach: reviewing ongoing administrative work and signaling political intent. Following her visit to Birbhum, a district considered a traditional TMC stronghold but recently fraught with internal challenges involving leaders such as Anubrata Mondal and Kajol Sheikh, she now turns her attention to Burdwan, a region considered more politically stable but not without its undercurrents.

Although Burdwan has not witnessed the same factional disputes as Birbhum, the shadow of internal dynamics remains, prompting the TMC to begin early groundwork. With memories of internal friction still fresh, the leadership is keen to avoid any surprises during the election season.

Ahead of the Chief Minister’s visit, district authorities have been conducting field inspections, particularly at the venue for Tuesday’s meeting. On Thursday, top officials personally visited the Burdwan Municipal Boys’ High School ground to review security, logistics, and crowd management plans. Reports confirm that security arrangements are being strengthened, and coordination meetings among police and civil administration are already underway.

District TMC President and MLA Rabindranath Chattopadhyay confirmed the preparations, stating that “the Chief Minister will hold a joint administrative meeting for East and West Burdwan on August 26 at 12 noon. She will inaugurate projects, lay foundation stones, and hand over pattas to eligible beneficiaries.”

TMC Hits Back After PM’s Corruption Remarks: Kunal Ghosh and Dr. Shashi Panja Counter with Narada Video

War of Words Escalates Ahead of Polls as Subhendu Adhikari Faces Renewed Allegations

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews | Kolkata | August 23, 2025 :

The political temperature in West Bengal surged yet again following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fiery speech from Dum Dum, where he launched a scathing attack on jailed Trinamool Congress ministers Partha Chatterjee and Jyotipriya Mallick over corruption. Within hours, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) struck back—general secretary and spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, along with senior leader Dr. Shashi Panja, hit back at the BJP by publicly resurfacing the Narada sting video implicating opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari, a former TMC heavyweight now with the BJP.

In his speech earlier in the day, the Prime Minister targeted the controversial ‘Ministry Abolition’ Bill, using it as a platform to highlight alleged corruption among TMC leaders. Without naming them directly, Modi pointed to Partha Chatterjee, arrested in the teacher recruitment scam, and Jyotipriya Mallick, implicated in the ration distribution corruption case. “They did not step down even after being arrested,” he said, accusing the TMC leadership of having no regard for public accountability and adding that “the public is being cheated.”

He further issued a stern warning, stating, “Insult to the Constitution will not be tolerated,” reinforcing his party’s anti-corruption narrative ahead of the upcoming elections.

The TMC’s counteroffensive was swift and calculated. From the party headquarters at Trinamool Bhavan, Kunal Ghosh blasted the Prime Minister’s remarks, stating, “Narendra Modi is throwing stones while sitting in a glass house. The people he shares the stage with also face serious corruption allegations.” Ghosh then played a video clip from the Narada sting operation, which had previously shown several political figures, including Subhendu Adhikari, allegedly accepting bribes on camera.

Dr. Shashi Panja, standing alongside Ghosh, reinforced the party’s stance by questioning the BJP’s moral authority: “If the Prime Minister wants to talk about corruption, he should first address the presence of those with tainted records within his own party.”

The Narada sting, though years old, remains a politically potent symbol in Bengal’s high-stakes electoral landscape. While Subhendu Adhikari has denied any wrongdoing, the footage continues to be a thorn in the BJP’s side—especially when used strategically by the TMC to blunt anti-corruption criticisms.

Today’s exchange marks yet another chapter in the intensifying political rivalry between Bengal’s ruling party and the BJP, which continues to sharpen its focus on the state ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. With both parties trading charges of corruption, the narrative on governance, accountability, and ethics is likely to remain at the forefront of public debate in the coming months.

Abhishek Banerjee Criticises Amendment Bill, Questions Fairness of Resignation Clause

Baby Chakraborty,  KalimNews, Kolkata, August 21, 2025 : The political row over the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025 intensified on Wednesday with Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and MP Abhishek Banerjee openly challenging the Centre. Addressing reporters in Kolkata, Banerjee alleged that the bill, presented in the Lok Sabha by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, was aimed at silencing the opposition and destabilising elected governments rather than upholding constitutional morality.

The contentious bill mandates that if the Prime Minister, a Chief Minister, or any minister is arrested and remains in police custody for 30 consecutive days on charges of serious crimes, the individual would be forced to resign from office on the 31st day. The matter has now been referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for scrutiny.

Banerjee, however, raised strong objections, claiming that such a clause undermines judicial authority. “If someone has to resign on the 31st day, then the accused will not even get an opportunity to defend himself. Then there is no need for the courts at all. This amounts to showing a thumbs down to the judicial system,” he told the media.

He further argued that the bill was politically motivated, designed to target opposition leaders while shielding ruling party members. “How can the opposition be eliminated? By arresting and jailing leaders, and when that is not enough, this bill is being passed,” Banerjee remarked.

Citing data, the TMC MP claimed that “28 Union Cabinet ministers are facing various cases, including 19 with serious allegations like murder and crimes against women.” He questioned whether the provisions of the bill would be applied uniformly, noting that in multiple instances, investigations against leaders accused of wrongdoing had been halted once they joined the BJP.

In a pointed challenge to the ruling party, Banerjee sarcastically proposed a counter-condition: “Why wait for 31 days? Reduce the time to 15 days, we will support you. But there will be a condition—if the guilt is not proven, then the investigating officer must spend double that time in jail.”

The TMC leader also referred to the government’s recent setback in the Supreme Court regarding the SIR (Special Investigation Report), alleging that the Centre was attempting to divert attention from it by pushing through the controversial legislation.

Meanwhile, opposition MPs in Parliament protested the bill’s introduction, alleging that it trampled on the constitutional principle of “innocent until proven guilty,” weakened federalism, and could be easily misused for political vendetta. Despite the uproar, the bill has been sent to the JPC, which is expected to submit its report in the upcoming winter session of Parliament.

As the political battle lines sharpen, the amendment bill—framed by the Centre as a measure to uphold morality in public life—is emerging as a flashpoint in the broader contest between the ruling BJP and opposition parties ahead of the next phase of legislative debates.

Abhishek Banerjee Slams Centre Over New Constitutional Amendment Bill Amid Heated Parliament Uproar

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Kolkata, August 21, 2025 : A major political storm erupted on Wednesday as the Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced three significant bills in the Lok Sabha, including the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025. The proposed legislation seeks to empower the removal of prime ministers, chief ministers, and ministers if they are arrested and kept in police custody for 30 consecutive days on charges of serious crimes.

The development triggered sharp criticism from opposition benches, with Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and MP Abhishek Banerjee strongly attacking the Centre. Taking to social media, Banerjee accused the government of undermining federalism and misusing legislative powers. He alleged that the Centre’s real intention was to destabilize elected state governments under the guise of morality in public life.

In his post, Banerjee wrote that the government had “proven itself to be anti-people, anti-farmer, anti-poor, anti-Scheduled Castes, anti-tribals, anti-OBC, anti-federal and above all anti-India,” further alleging that it was treating the country as “private property” and “selling the Constitution.” He also questioned the government’s stance on national security, remarking that while it makes lofty speeches, it shows “no real initiative when it comes to protecting India’s sovereignty and borders, particularly in relation to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).”

According to the provisions outlined, if a prime minister, chief minister, or minister is arrested and remains in police custody for 30 days on serious charges, the head of state—either the President for the Union government or the Governor in the case of a state—would be empowered to act on the matter. If convicted with a sentence exceeding five years, the individual could be removed from ministerial office altogether.

The Lok Sabha session witnessed chaotic scenes following the introduction of the bills around 2 pm. Opposition MPs from Congress, TMC, AIMIM, and other parties stormed into the well of the House, raised slogans, and even tore up copies of the draft legislation in front of Amit Shah. Union ministers Kiren Rijiju and Ravneet Singh Bittu intervened to prevent opposition lawmakers from marching closer to the Home Minister’s bench.

Opposition leaders including K C Venugopal, Manish Tewari, Asaduddin Owaisi, and N K Premachandran argued that the proposal ran contrary to constitutional principles and the federal structure. They also claimed it overturned the jurisprudential doctrine of “innocent until proven guilty” and could potentially be weaponized for political vendetta, thereby threatening to convert India into a “police state.”

In a fiery exchange, Venugopal questioned Shah’s moral authority by pointing to his 2010 arrest in Gujarat. Shah, however, retorted that he had resigned on “moral grounds” prior to the arrest, insisting the allegations were false and that he did not return to office until fully discharged by the courts. “What are they teaching us about morality? I had resigned before my arrest. I want moral values to rise. We cannot be so shameless as to continue holding constitutional positions while facing serious charges,” Shah responded.

Despite the uproar, the bills were referred to a Joint Committee of Parliament comprising 21 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha. The committee is expected to submit its report by the end of the first week of the next parliamentary session, likely in November 2025.

The three bills introduced on Wednesday were the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

With the Centre defending the move as a step toward higher standards of probity in public life, and the opposition warning of an assault on democratic values, the stage appears set for an intense nationwide debate in the months to come.

Abhishek Banerjee Holds Key Organizational Meeting with District Leaders Amid Growing Tensions in Trinamool Congress

PTI, KOLKATA, AUG 11, 2025 :  Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee initiated an important round of meetings with district leaders today, as part of the party’s ongoing organizational strategy ahead of crucial political developments. The meeting, which took place on Camac Street in Kolkata, saw Abhishek engage with the organizational heads of Uttar Dinajpur, Berhampur, and Murshidabad districts. In attendance were ten MLAs from these three districts, including the controversial Humayun Kabir, a so-called ‘rebel’ MLA from Debra who has been at the center of much speculation over the past few weeks.

Humayun, who had earlier threatened to form a new political party, was meeting Abhishek for the first time after his warning to leave TMC if his grievances weren’t addressed. While there is no certainty on whether Humayun will follow through on his threat to form a party focused on Murshidabad and the surrounding regions, sources indicate that Abhishek received a call from him well before the deadline of August 15, which Humayun had set for the party leadership to act.

Humayun, when questioned about his earlier remarks regarding a possible new political venture, stated that the meeting had been scheduled by the All India General Secretary ten days ago, implying that he was mentally prepared to meet Abhishek. Despite his reluctance to accept the ‘rebel’ label, Humayun was circumspect when asked about his potential move to form a new party. He hinted that all would be revealed in due time but emphasized that he expected the leadership to offer solutions that would preserve his dignity. “I think the leadership will give all the instructions keeping my honor in mind,” he said, underlining the delicate nature of the situation.

The focus of today’s organizational meeting, according to informed sources, was not just on Humayun but also on addressing the ongoing factionalism in Uttar Dinajpur. This issue, which has surfaced multiple times in recent months, was expected to be a key topic of discussion. Abhishek may likely assign organizational leaders a ‘home task’ regarding the situation in Adhir-Garh Berhampur, a potential flashpoint for party instability in the region.

Abhishek’s meeting with district leaders began earlier this month and has already seen two rounds of consultations with leaders from the four northern districts: Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, and Malda. These meetings have been part of his efforts to consolidate the party’s position and address internal strife, especially with rising dissent in various districts. Notably, on August 7, Abhishek held another meeting with leaders from Dakshin Dinajpur and Jangipur.

The political scenario within TMC is undoubtedly tense, as growing factionalism continues to undermine the party’s unity in certain districts. As the August 15 deadline looms, all eyes are now on whether Humayun Kabir will make a decisive move or if he will choose to return to the fold of the TMC. Meanwhile, the party’s second-in-command, Abhishek Banerjee, seems determined to quell internal discord and keep the party intact in the face of mounting opposition.

Birbhum’s Bivas Adhikari Arrested for Fraud and Fake Police Station Operations

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Kolkata, August 10, 2025 : In a major breakthrough, the Central Investigation Agency has arrested Bivas Adhikari, a notorious figure from Nalhati in Birbhum, West Bengal, for allegedly operating a fraudulent police station under the guise of an international investigation agency. The arrest, which also involved his son and four associates, comes after a detailed investigation into a web of deceit, involving fake identification cards and illegal financial extortion.

Bivas Adhikari, once linked to recruitment corruption cases, was apprehended along with his son, Arghya Adhikari, and four other individuals: Babulchandra Mandal, Pintu Pal, Samapad Mal, and Ashish Kumar. The arrests were made in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, following a covert operation by the police. The accused were found in possession of multiple forged documents, which were allegedly used to pose as official investigators and demand money from people under the pretense of conducting investigations.

According to police sources, Bivas and his associates operated a fraudulent police station, which they used to impersonate government officials. They would conduct “investigations” and extort money from the public, offering their services as if they were part of a legitimate law enforcement operation. Investigators found a large cache of counterfeit international recognition ID cards during searches at Bivas’s so-called police station.

This is not the first time Bivas Adhikari has found himself in legal trouble. Last year, in April, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had conducted a raid at his residence and ashram in Nalhati, Birbhum, seizing a large number of documents. It was also revealed that Bivas had been involved in recruitment corruption scandals in the past, with his name emerging in connection with alleged illegal appointments, which further taints his public image.

The police believe that the group’s operations extended beyond India, with Bivas and his associates reportedly claiming to have an office in the United Kingdom. Investigators hope to uncover more evidence as they continue their interrogation of the suspects.

Bivas had previously been associated with religious activities, overseeing a branch of a prominent religious ashram in Nalhati. However, the ashram’s other branches have distanced themselves from him, clarifying that it was his personal venture and not affiliated with the broader religious community. His political affiliations remain unclear, though he had once served as the district president of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). There were also rumors suggesting a close relationship with BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, although Bivas never joined the BJP.

As investigations continue, authorities are hopeful that the evidence seized will reveal the full extent of the fraudulent network and its operations, while also uncovering any potential connections to larger political or criminal organizations.

Mamata Banerjee Intensifies Push to Protect Bengali Identity Amid Political Tensions with BJP

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Aug 7, 2025, Kolkata :  The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has launched a vigorous campaign to protect the Bengali identity, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee leading the charge. In a highly charged rally held in Jhargram on Wednesday, Banerjee delivered a stark message about her political resolve, signaling that she would step down voluntarily only when she chooses to do so. Her remarks quickly sparked a response from the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, Subhendu Adhikari, who challenged the Chief Minister’s statement with a declaration of his own political intent.

Banerjee’s comments in Jhargram, which were made at the conclusion of a march advocating for the protection of Bengali language and identity, included a clear assertion of her leadership. “I can be removed the day I think it’s necessary—not intentionally, but of my own accord,” Banerjee said. This prompted a pointed response from Adhikari, who, in a press statement, declared that Mamata Banerjee had already “lost” to him. He then added, “If I contest in Bhawanipur, I will defeat her. If the BJP fields me, she will lose again.” Adhikari went on to emphasize his resolve, saying it was his responsibility to ensure that the candidate opposing Mamata Banerjee would win. “He lost, he lost, he lost—I will play this in my ears for the rest of my life,” he said, clearly dismissing Banerjee’s political claims.

The conflict between the TMC and the BJP is increasingly shaped by the issue of Bengali identity. Banerjee, who has been vocal about the alleged harassment of Bengali-speaking people in BJP-ruled states, continued to raise alarm over what she described as the marginalization of the Bengali community. In her speech, Banerjee sharply criticized the treatment of Bengali speakers across the country, particularly in states where the BJP holds power. She lamented, “Today, if you speak Bengali, you are being taken to jail and being called a Bangladeshi.” This accusation has become a central theme of her recent campaigns, particularly after the Language Movement march in Jhargram.

The Chief Minister urged the public to stand united in the face of such adversity, asking them to say “Jai Bangla” whenever confronted by such discrimination. Banerjee’s call to action resonated with many of the protesters who joined her in the rally, which was attended by prominent TMC leaders such as Firhad Hakim and Arup Biswas.

The political temperature in West Bengal is rising as the TMC steps up its offensive against what it views as an attempt to undermine the rights of Bengali speakers. Banerjee’s remarks, which are part of a broader campaign aimed at defending the linguistic and cultural identity of Bengalis, have set the stage for further confrontations with the BJP. With both political heavyweights jostling for influence in the state, the battle over Bengali identity is likely to dominate the political discourse in the coming weeks.

Mamata Banerjee Calls for New ‘Language Movement’ Amid Tensions Over Migrant Workers and Election Controversy

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Aug 7, 2025, Kolkata : Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has intensified her stance on Bengali language issues and migrant workers’ rights, accusing the BJP government of waging a form of ‘terrorism’ against the Bengali language and labeling Bengal’s migrant workers as Bangladeshis. Speaking in Jhargram on Thursday, Banerjee once again raised her voice against the growing atrocities and injustices faced by migrant workers from Bengal in BJP-ruled states, drawing attention to what she calls an orchestrated effort to tarnish the identity of the Bengali-speaking population.

At a rally in Jhargram, Banerjee launched a fresh call for a “new language movement,” following earlier protests in Kolkata and Bolpur, where she voiced similar concerns. These protests, aimed at addressing the alleged victimization of Bengali-speaking migrant workers, culminated in a speech by the Chief Minister at the end of the Jhargram procession. During her address, Banerjee raised a series of allegations, accusing the BJP government of subjecting Bengali-speaking workers to physical abuse and detention under the false pretext that they were illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.

Banerjee went on to claim that her administration had repatriated over 2,000 migrant workers, but many others still remain trapped in detention camps in BJP-ruled states such as Assam, Gurugram, and Rajasthan. She highlighted a particularly disturbing case of a tribal girl from Malda, West Bengal, who was allegedly detained in Madhya Pradesh and subsequently deported to Bangladesh. The Chief Minister denounced such incidents as violations of human rights, asserting that Dalits, in particular, were being disproportionately targeted and mistreated.

In her remarks, Banerjee also lashed out at the Election Commission of India (ECI) over its recent suspension of four state government officials. The suspended officers, including two Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and two Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), were accused of tampering with the voter registration list. In response, Banerjee raised critical questions about the legitimacy of the suspensions, demanding to know the authority under which these officials were penalized. She firmly declared that no officer would be suspended from her government, further accusing the Election Commission of being a “slave of the BJP.”

The ongoing controversy revolves around the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in West Bengal, a process that Banerjee fears could lead to the exclusion of genuine voters. She warned that the BJP was attempting to manipulate the voter list to serve its own political agenda. “Behind the SIR, there is a conspiracy to introduce the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Bengal,” Banerjee asserted, reiterating her firm stance that no one’s name should be removed from the voter list. “The BJP is trying to create a voter list for its own convenience through the SIR,” she said.

Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), also joined in the attack against the ECI, accusing the poll body of exceeding its jurisdiction and functioning as a tool of the central government. He criticized the timing of the Election Commission’s intervention, pointing out that its actions seemed to undermine the authority of an elected state government, especially when the Model Code of Conduct had not yet come into effect.

Mamata Banerjee’s comments in Jhargram are part of an escalating campaign against both the BJP-led central government and the Election Commission. She had previously declared that she would take the issue to international forums and expose the alleged wrongdoings of the BJP if any legitimate voters were excluded from the electoral rolls in West Bengal. Banerjee’s statements reflect the growing tensions in the state over issues of identity, migration, and electoral integrity, with the Chief Minister pledging to protect the rights of the Bengali-speaking population at all costs.

The situation in West Bengal is now under intense scrutiny as both the local government and the opposition parties, led by the BJP, engage in a high-stakes political and legal battle that could have significant implications for the state’s electoral future.

Abhishek Banerjee Elevated as Trinamool’s Lok Sabha Leader Amid Generational Shift in Party Leadership

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Aug 4, 2025, Kolkata : In a significant reshuffle within the Trinamool Congress, Abhishek Banerjee, the party’s National General Secretary and nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has been appointed the leader of the Trinamool Congress Parliamentary Party in the Lok Sabha, replacing the ailing veteran MP Sudip Bandopadhyay. The decision, announced during a virtual meeting of Trinamool MPs convened by Mamata Banerjee on Monday, is being seen as part of a broader generational transition in the party.

The Trinamool Congress currently holds 29 seats in the Lok Sabha. Sudip Bandopadhyay, a senior leader and long-time Lok Sabha face of the party, has been absent from parliamentary proceedings in recent months due to persistent health issues. His absence during the ongoing session of Parliament and his prior removal in May as the North Kolkata district unit president — amid rising local-level discontent — had already hinted at a possible shift.

During the virtual meeting, Mamata Banerjee cited Sudip’s medical condition as the key reason for the change. “Given that our Lok Sabha leader, Shri Sudip Bandyopadhyay, is unwell and undergoing medical treatment, the MPs have unanimously decided to entrust Shri Abhishek Banerjee with the responsibility of leading the party in the Lok Sabha as the leader of the party until Sudip da returns to good health,” she stated.

Abhishek Banerjee’s appointment marks a symbolic and strategic generational transition within the party. Often seen as Mamata Banerjee’s political heir, Abhishek will now wield significant influence over the party’s functioning in the lower house — including deciding who speaks on which subjects and when. The final list of speakers and topics will be shown to Mamata Banerjee, but Abhishek will serve as the operational head for all Lok Sabha proceedings going forward.

This change follows an evolving pattern of leadership transition within the party, where responsibilities are gradually being transferred to younger leaders. A similar process was initiated when Abhishek first raised the idea of “rotation” based on age and performance. Observers within the party suggest that the broader goal is to prepare the next generation of leadership while ensuring continuity of the party’s core vision and control under Mamata Banerjee.

The reshuffle also brings into focus the health of other senior Trinamool leaders. Veteran MP Saugata Roy, another influential figure, is currently hospitalised and has not attended the current Parliament session even once. This has led to mounting concerns within the party regarding the active roles of its ageing leadership.

According to the Trinamool’s organizational structure, the party maintains two separate parliamentary leaders — one for each house of Parliament. Derek O’Brien continues to lead the party in the Rajya Sabha, while Abhishek Banerjee now assumes leadership in the Lok Sabha. However, Mamata Banerjee remains the overall chairperson of the Trinamool’s parliamentary wing in both houses, retaining supreme authority over strategic decisions.

The reshuffle, though anticipated by many, comes at a politically crucial juncture — with Assembly elections due in early 2026 and opposition unity efforts under the INDIA alliance gaining momentum. Abhishek, who is also seen as the bridge between Trinamool and the broader opposition bloc, is now expected to amplify the party’s presence and assertiveness at the national level.

Political analysts note that while Abhishek’s ascendancy represents continuity with change, it may also hint at a shift in the balance of power within the party. Over recent years, Abhishek has occasionally appeared to chart an independent path, sometimes diverging from the party mainstream, leading to speculation over his growing clout. His formal elevation in the Lok Sabha is likely to reinforce that perception.

For now, Sudip Bandopadhyay is expected to return to parliamentary duties after regaining health, but there is growing sentiment that this may be the beginning of a wider reshuffle affecting other senior MPs and MLAs in the months ahead.

With Mamata Banerjee signaling support for this generational shift and entrusting greater responsibilities to her nephew, the Trinamool Congress appears to be moving towards a restructured leadership model — one that balances experience with youthful dynamism, in preparation for both state and national electoral battles.

Tensions Rise in Bengal Politics as Mamata and Shah Strategize Amid Electoral Roll Controversy

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, New Delhi/Kolkata, August 4, 2025 : Political temperatures are running high ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, as the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) intensify internal consultations and public posturing over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

In a significant political development, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee held a virtual meeting on Sunday with all party Members of Parliament (MPs) from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Simultaneously, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to meet with 12 BJP MPs from Bengal on Monday during a packed visit to assess the political dynamics of the state and chalk out electoral strategies.

Although the proximity of the two high-level meetings raises questions about whether one is a response to the other, no official statement has confirmed a counter-strategy. However, both parties appear to be in battle-ready mode as the electoral climate intensifies.

During the TMC meeting, Ms Banerjee oversaw a dramatic shake-up within the party’s parliamentary structure. As senior MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay remains unwell and under medical treatment, MPs unanimously entrusted Lok Sabha leadership responsibilities to Abhishek Banerjee, the party’s national general secretary and Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, until Sudip’s recovery.

But what was meant to be a brief 12-minute virtual discussion quickly turned turbulent. The Chief Minister criticized Chief Whip Kalyan Banerjee for inadequate coordination among MPs, prompting him to resign on the spot. He then went public with pointed remarks against fellow TMC lawmakers. “Those whom Mamata Banerjee made MPs don’t even attend Lok Sabha. South Kolkata, Barrackpore, Bankura, North Kolkata… hardly anyone attends Parliament. What can I do? What is my fault?” he asked, visibly agitated.

Sources indicate that the original plan was to remove Kalyan Bandopadhyay, while Sudip Bandopadhyay’s exit was not intended for announcement at this stage. However, the public outburst by Kalyan created a domino effect, culminating in Sudip’s replacement as well. The developments underscore an ongoing realignment within TMC, aimed at consolidating control in Delhi through Abhishek Banerjee’s leadership, especially within the INDIA opposition bloc.

Despite the discord, Abhishek Banerjee extended an olive branch, indicating that he would personally meet Kalyan Banerjee in Delhi later this week, signaling attempts to maintain internal unity. Abhishek is expected to focus on strengthening the party’s national role while keeping Bengal-centric issues in the spotlight. Mamata Banerjee, meanwhile, remains the undisputed Chief Ministerial face for the 2026 elections.

Amidst these internal reorganizations, TMC is also gearing up for direct action. Next week, the party, along with other members of the INDIA alliance, plans to gherao the Election Commission office in protest against the implementation of the SIR. Abhishek Banerjee is expected to lead the demonstration on behalf of Trinamool.

The Election Commission has stated its intent to implement the SIR process in states beyond Bihar, a move that has sparked strong opposition from TMC and other opposition parties. Critics, including Mamata Banerjee, allege that the SIR could be used as a covert method to introduce the National Register of Citizens (NRC), effectively disenfranchising sections of the population. The Chief Minister has accused the EC of acting under BJP’s influence, warning that the revision process may unfairly target Bengali-speaking populations under the guise of removing “infiltrators.”

Meanwhile, the BJP has welcomed the SIR initiative, claiming that a large number of undocumented individuals have found their way into the voters’ list with alleged support from the TMC. Amit Shah’s meeting with Bengal BJP MPs is aimed at solidifying the party’s stance and strategizing a response if and when SIR is rolled out in the state. Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya confirmed that the Monday meeting would include discussions on prevailing political issues and electoral preparedness, although he refrained from giving specific details.

The meeting is part of BJP’s broader roadmap for the upcoming Assembly elections, anticipated to be held in March-April 2026. Shah was joined by national general secretary in-charge Sunil Bansal, Bihar minister and Bengal co-in-charge Mangal Pandey, and BJP IT cell head and co-incharge Amit Malviya. All leaders focused on pre-poll planning, candidate selection strategies, and regional coordination.

The ideological clash over SIR has now escalated into a full-blown political face-off between TMC and BJP. While Mamata Banerjee positions herself as a defender of Bengali identity and constitutional rights, the BJP accuses her government of protecting infiltrators for “vote bank politics.” Both sides appear firmly entrenched, with Bengal once again emerging as a flashpoint in national political discourse.

As tensions mount, the role of Abhishek Banerjee will be closely watched—both as a generational shift within TMC and as a critical figure in the INDIA bloc’s strategy against the BJP-led Centre. Whether this internal reorganization and opposition alliance will translate into electoral advantage remains to be seen, but the battle lines are now clearly drawn.

Allegations of Financial Misconduct and Harassment Against Actor and BJP Leader Mithun Chakraborty Spark Controversy in Kolkata

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, July 28, 2025, Kolkata : In a serious development that has created a political storm, actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty is facing allegations of financial misconduct and harassment following a complaint filed by the wife of his former secretary. The allegation, which has gained significant attention, involves Chakraborty’s failure to honor promises of remuneration and financial security made to his former secretary, a claim that has now led to an FIR being lodged at the Chitpur police station in Kolkata.

According to the complainant, her husband, who had been closely associated with Mithun Chakraborty for years, had selflessly worked for him, sacrificing family time and personal privileges. However, the complainant claims that despite repeated promises of remuneration and future financial security, Chakraborty failed to fulfill his commitments. Instead, the family alleges that they are now being harassed and scouted by Chakraborty’s aides in retaliation for bringing the issue to light. The accusations have caused a stir among the public, raising questions about the actor’s conduct and the apparent lack of action by law enforcement.

The controversy takes an even more critical turn as the role of the police is now being questioned. The complainant has voiced concerns about the apparent delay in the investigation, suggesting that the response from the Chitpur police station would have been different had the accused been an ordinary citizen. The suggestion that Mithun’s celebrity status and political affiliation with the BJP may be influencing the pace of the investigation has sparked public debate. The complainant’s question, “Would the police have been so patient if it were a common man?” underscores the larger issue of whether individuals with high-profile political ties are afforded undue protection by law enforcement agencies.

The case has also reverberated through the political landscape, with opposition figures criticizing Chakraborty’s alleged ability to avoid legal consequences, particularly since joining the BJP. A section of the opposition has suggested that the actor, now a prominent member of the ruling party, is using his political connections to shield himself from legal accountability. The implications of this case extend beyond personal grievances, raising larger questions about the relationship between politics, celebrity, and the law.

The complainant’s family, which has long trusted Mithun Chakraborty, has called for a fair and impartial investigation into the matter. Their clear demand is justice, asserting that the betrayal they feel is not just against them but a broader case of deception. They have expressed frustration over Chakraborty’s lack of response to the allegations and the apparent apathy of law enforcement.

This controversy also reignites discussions about Chakraborty’s past, particularly his alleged involvement in the infamous chit-fund scams—Saradha, Rose Valley, and Alchemist. Despite allegations that Chakraborty had a hand in these fraudulent schemes, he remains outside the purview of central investigative agencies, leading to suspicions that his political alignment with the BJP may have provided him a protective shield. His former secretary, in a recent video message, had exposed some of Chakraborty’s alleged misdeeds, including his role in the chit-fund operations. The secretary claimed that Mithun had distanced himself from him once his involvement became public, choosing self-preservation over loyalty to his longtime associate.

The legal battle, now evolving into a public scandal, is expected to intensify, with the complainant’s family demanding that the authorities take immediate and decisive action. The allegations against Chakraborty—coupled with the lack of response from both the actor and the police—are expected to keep the issue in the public eye for the foreseeable future.

As this legal and political saga unfolds, the people of Kolkata and Bengal await answers. Will the investigation proceed impartially, or will political influence and celebrity status shield Mithun Chakraborty from accountability? The coming weeks will reveal whether the administration is truly committed to a fair and transparent investigation or if the ‘star’ status and political identity will once again play a pivotal role in determining the outcome.

Abhishek Banerjee Condemns Harassment of Bengali Migrant Workers, Slams BJP’s Double Standards

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, July 28, 2025, Kolkata :  Abhishek Banerjee, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, has voiced strong opposition against the alleged harassment faced by Bengali migrant workers in other states. Speaking out against the mistreatment, Banerjee condemned the actions of the ruling governments in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Odisha, accusing them of targeting Bengali-speaking individuals in the name of migration.

During a media interaction, Banerjee highlighted the recent incidents where Bengali migrant workers were detained and harassed simply for speaking their native language, a situation that sparked widespread outrage. He emphasized that such discrimination was not isolated and had become a troubling trend. “Whenever we get a chance in Parliament, we will speak in Bengali. Today, during the discussion on Operation Siddur, we will speak in Bengali as well. Bengali migrant workers are being harassed in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Odisha under the BJP’s double-engine government,” he said.

The MP further criticized the Election Commission’s impartiality, alleging that it had been complicit in voter intimidation, particularly targeting the common people under the pretext of conducting the voter ID process. Banerjee remarked, “Voters are being intimidated in the name of SIR. The rights of the common man are being taken away. Meanwhile, voter ID cards are being issued in the name of dogs. All this is done to favor a particular party, and it’s shameful.”

Banerjee also referred to the disturbing incidents that occurred during the 2021 West Bengal election, when voters in Shitalkuchi were allegedly killed in broad daylight, and he expressed similar concerns over the handling of the 2024 elections. He accused the Election Commission of being subservient to political interests, leading to a compromised electoral process.

“Flattery and servitude are being practiced by the ruling party. The land that gave the world four Nobel laureates—Rabindranath Tagore, Mother Teresa, Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee, and Amartya Sen—has now been reduced to a political battleground,” Banerjee remarked. He also criticized the BJP’s national leadership, specifically targeting BJP President Amit Shah, accusing him of ignorance regarding the birthplace of Rabindranath Tagore and the party’s destructive actions, such as the alleged vandalization of Vidyasagar’s statue under Shah’s leadership.

Turning to the political landscape in Bengal, Banerjee warned that those who continued to oppress the people of Bengal would face consequences similar to those in the 2021 and 2024 elections. “The people of Bengal will not betray their own. They will give the BJP the same lesson they gave them in 2021 and 2024, come 2026,” he asserted.

In a passionate plea, Banerjee questioned why the BJP was engaging in politics of division, pointing out that if the ruling party had truly been concerned about such politics, they could have halted developmental work in the Jangalmahal region, where the BJP had performed well in the past. However, Banerjee proudly stated that the ruling party in Bengal had maintained an inclusive development agenda across the state, without discrimination.

“This is politics, and this should be the policy of the government of this country. It’s unfortunate that we have to fight against such divisions. We will speak out. If BJP believes that insulting the people of Bengal will teach them a lesson, they are gravely mistaken. They should be prepared for a much tougher lesson,” Banerjee concluded, sending a strong message of resilience and unity from Bengal.

The MP’s statement has added to the ongoing political discourse surrounding migrant workers’ rights, voter integrity, and the integrity of the electoral process, and has raised the stakes for upcoming political

Dilip Ghosh Alleges Social Media Conspiracy, Files Complaint with Kolkata Cyber Crime Cell

Baby Chakraborty | KalimNews | July 27, 2025 | Kolkata : Former West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh has formally lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Cell at Lalbazar, the Kolkata Police Headquarters, alleging that a calculated and premeditated conspiracy is being carried out against him through social media to malign his public image and damage his political standing. The move came after a video was circulated online alleging to show Ghosh in the company of a woman, which quickly went viral and triggered a storm of controversy.

In his written complaint, Ghosh stated, “This is a preplanned conspiracy against me. Identify those who have manufactured this video and made it viral and take legal action.” The BJP leader has urged the police to identify the individuals responsible for creating and disseminating the video, and has called for stringent legal action against them under existing laws.

The complaint follows Ghosh’s public assertion on Friday that he would be approaching the police to report the matter. He reiterated his stance that the video is fake and technologically manipulated, and stressed that the person seen in the clip is not him. Several BJP leaders close to Ghosh have also supported this claim, suggesting that the video is a product of digital fabrication aimed at defaming him.

In his detailed submission to the Cyber Crime Police Station, Ghosh expressed concern that digital platforms and social media are being misused as tools in a deeper political conspiracy. He accused unnamed individuals of attempting to smear him both socially and politically and requested that law enforcement act decisively to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Ghosh’s political trajectory has recently been a subject of speculation. On April 30, the day of the inauguration of the Jagannath Temple in Digha, he was seen visiting the coastal town with his wife. Notably, he met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the same day and appeared to be in good spirits. His interaction with the Chief Minister, especially amidst strained ties with certain sections of his own party, raised eyebrows within the state BJP.

Following this, rumours began to circulate that Ghosh might be considering a shift to the ruling Trinamool Congress. These speculations gained further momentum with suggestions that he could appear at Trinamool’s annual Martyrs’ Day rally on July 21. However, Ghosh was present at a BJP meeting in Kharagpur on that very day. Addressing the gathering, he said, “Those who misled workers by saying that Dilip Ghosh would join the BJP are the party that eats eggs and rice.” While refraining from naming individuals, his remarks were seen as a direct attack on a section of the BJP leadership.

Now, with the emergence of the controversial video and his subsequent legal action, Ghosh has once again taken a combative stance, alleging that a politically motivated attempt is underway to undermine his credibility. The developments come at a time when internal rifts within the BJP and broader electoral dynamics in West Bengal remain under intense public and media scrutiny.

Kharge, Rahul Question Modi’s Leadership Longevity Amid RSS Call for Retirement at 75

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, July 26, 2025,  New Delhi :  As the debate intensifies over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s political future, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi took direct aim at Modi during a major public address, questioning whether he will abide by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)’s unofficial 75-year retirement guideline. Their remarks have amplified the political storm already swirling around RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent statement advocating retirement for leaders who cross that age threshold.

Speaking at the Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan—a Congress event focused on the rights and representation of Other Backward Classes (OBCs)—Kharge launched a scathing critique of Modi’s leadership, recalling how the Prime Minister had previously removed senior BJP figures like L. K. Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi on similar grounds. “He removed them citing the age of 75. Now he is completing 75 years. When will he move out?” Kharge asked rhetorically. “Modi ousted all others. He has nothing to do with the country. He is only worried about his chair.”

Rahul Gandhi, addressing the same gathering, also took a swipe at the Prime Minister’s public image, branding it as inflated and hollow. “Earlier, I had not met him. But now I have met him two or three times. Now I understand—there is nothing,” he remarked. “All show and no substance. The media has inflated the Prime Minister’s balloon, but there’s not much inside.”

Both leaders used the platform to spotlight their outreach to the OBC community. Kharge urged Congress Chief Ministers to roll out new welfare schemes specifically targeting backward castes, suggesting that the party had concrete plans to empower and elevate OBCs. He also lamented the party’s narrow miss in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, asserting, “Had we got 25 more seats, Congress would have been in power.”

In a moment of introspection, Rahul Gandhi acknowledged what he called a “mistake” in not doing enough to safeguard the interests of the OBC community earlier in his political career. “While I can say that I did well in pushing for the Land Acquisition Bill, MGNREGA, Food Security, and the rights of tribals and minorities, I must admit I failed to fully understand and defend the concerns of OBCs. I deserve good marks in some areas, but I lacked in this one,” he confessed.

He praised the Telangana government’s recent socio-economic caste survey, calling it a “political earthquake” whose full aftershocks are yet to be felt across the national landscape. “It has shaken the political ground of the country,” he said, signaling that caste-based data and social justice would remain central to the Congress’ future political pitch.

These comments come against the backdrop of a growing buzz surrounding RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remark suggesting a leadership retirement age of 75—an idea that has stirred both curiosity and controversy. With Modi nearing the milestone, opposition parties are keen to frame the moment as one of accountability, referencing BJP’s own 2015 introduction of the Margdarshak Mandal, a symbolic council meant to sideline senior leaders above 75 years of age.

Political observers note that Bhagwat’s comment may be a subtle nudge rather than a command—an attempt to initiate a long-discussed generational shift within the BJP. But given Modi’s towering stature and firm grip on power, few believe he will step down voluntarily. Even within the RSS, Bhagwat’s leverage to enforce such a transition is seen as limited.

Despite internal tensions between the BJP and its ideological parent, the RSS, the party has maintained a public image of cohesion. Behind the scenes, however, BJP’s increasing autonomy and perceived personality-driven politics—centered around Modi—have unsettled Sangh leadership, particularly after BJP President J. P. Nadda’s 2024 statement that the party was now “self-reliant” and no longer dependent on the RSS.

The Congress is now trying to capitalize on this moment of ideological friction. The question—”Will Modi retire at 75?”—is being turned into a political litmus test by the opposition, one that attempts to challenge not only Modi’s leadership but also the broader internal dynamics of the BJP-RSS equation.

Yet all signs point to Modi staying put. Known for his unrelenting hold on the party and its narrative, he has shown no public sign of preparing for a succession. The ‘Modi factor’ continues to dominate Indian politics, and until someone within the BJP or the Sangh has the clout to challenge him, the prospect of his stepping down remains theoretical at best.

As the political theatre unfolds, Modi’s looming 75th birthday is now more than a personal milestone—it has become a national talking point with implications for leadership, ideology, and the future direction of Indian politics.
