Subhendu Adhikari Blames Mamata Banerjee for Teacher Recruitment Mess, Sparks New Political Row

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, May 21, 2025, Kolkata :
The political storm over the teacher recruitment scam in West Bengal intensified on Tuesday as Leader of Opposition Subhendu Adhikari launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, blaming her personally for the prevailing crisis. Addressing reporters during a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in the Ranaghat North-West Assembly constituency, Adhikari reignited the controversy surrounding the “qualified versus incompetent” debate, declaring that only one person in Bengal truly fits the label of “incompetent”—and that, according to him, is the Chief Minister herself.

Adhikari’s remarks come in the backdrop of the prolonged unrest over recruitment corruption, which led to the Supreme Court scrapping the 2016 recruitment panel, leaving around 26,000 teaching and non-teaching staff jobless. Amid the public outcry, allegations, and legal fallout, the issue of who is “qualified” and who is “incompetent” has taken center stage in Bengal’s education and political discourse.

Criticizing the West Bengal Board of Primary Education and the broader education department, Adhikari alleged that the system lacks transparent rules and reliable standards for assessing candidate qualifications. He claimed that removing just “one person” from the equation would resolve the entire crisis—pointedly referencing Mamata Banerjee as the root of the dysfunction.

“The debate about qualified versus incompetent is deliberately created to distract from the real issue,” said Adhikari. “There’s only one incompetent individual among the 11 crore people of Bengal. Remove her, and the rest will fall into place.”

His comments drew immediate attention for their directness, but he did not stop there. Adhikari also took jabs at Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee, mocking his recent foreign visits and questioning the party’s decision to promote him over others like former cricketer and TMC MP Yusuf Pathan. Referring to the TMC as a “private limited company,” Adhikari implied that the party operates like a family-run enterprise with little internal democracy or accountability.

The explosive remarks are likely to deepen the political rift in Bengal, where education has become a major battleground. With multiple protests still ongoing—particularly by jobless teachers and non-teaching staff outside Vikas Bhavan—the opposition continues to target the ruling establishment, accusing it of systemic corruption, nepotism, and authoritarianism.

While TMC leaders have yet to officially respond to Adhikari’s latest tirade, political observers note that such confrontational rhetoric signals an increasingly polarized environment in the lead-up to future electoral battles. As the issue of recruitment corruption continues to haunt the state, the political discourse shows no signs of cooling down.

Jobless Teachers Submit Open Letter to CM Amid Lingering Crisis Over 2016 Panel Dismissal

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, May 21, 2025, Kolkata : The prolonged protest by jobless teachers and non-teaching staff outside Vikas Bhavan has taken a new turn as the demonstrators formally submitted an open letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Education Minister Bratya Basu, seeking immediate dialogue to resolve the deadlock surrounding their employment status. The group, united under the banner of Yoob Shiksha Jakhirhara Manch, has been staging an indefinite protest for months, demanding reinstatement without having to undergo another round of examinations.

The movement, which has appeared increasingly stagnant and directionless in recent weeks, now seeks clarity and resolution through direct communication with the state leadership. According to the agitators, an email was sent to both the Chief Minister and the Education Minister on Monday night, outlining their plight and requesting an opportunity to sit across the table for a discussion. However, no official response was received as of Wednesday afternoon.

Faced with silence from the government, the protestors opted to make their plea public. “We have submitted an open letter since we did not get a response to the email. We still believe that a solution is possible if the government agrees to speak with us,” said one of the agitating teachers outside Vikas Bhavan.

The roots of the crisis trace back to the 2016 recruitment panel, which was declared invalid by the Supreme Court following findings of irregularities and corruption in the hiring process. In a landmark judgment, the apex court scrapped the entire panel, resulting in the termination of approximately 26,000 teaching and non-teaching employees across West Bengal’s government-aided schools.

For those who lost their jobs, the ruling not only dismantled their livelihoods but also cast a long shadow over their professional futures. Many of them had been working for years before the court’s decision nullified their appointments. In their letter, the protestors emphasized the humanitarian crisis they are facing, urging the state government to recognize their service and consider a policy-based resolution that would allow them to be reinstated without being subjected again to competitive examinations.

As the protest continues, the silence from the state administration has drawn criticism from civil society groups and political observers who argue that constructive engagement, rather than avoidance, is essential to resolve such a large-scale employment crisis. With thousands of livelihoods hanging in the balance, the agitators maintain that the responsibility now lies with the government to respond and open a channel for negotiation.

The unfolding situation remains tense, and the protestors have indicated that they will continue their agitation until the state leadership formally addresses their demands.

Mystery Drones Spark Security Alert Over Kolkata Skies Amid Tensions

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, May 21, 2025, Kolkata : A sense of unease gripped Kolkata on Tuesday night as at least seven unidentified flying objects, suspected to be drones, were sighted in the skies over the city. The objects, reportedly emanating from the direction of Maheshtala and Behala, raised serious security concerns given the proximity of the area to key strategic installations like the Second Hooghly Bridge and Fort William, the Eastern Command headquarters of the Indian Army.

Sources indicate that unusual lights were observed in the sky around the same time by multiple observers. The lights were seen moving rapidly before vanishing behind high-rise buildings, displaying flight patterns consistent with drone movement. This has heightened concerns, especially as large portions of the area fall under army control.

The Army reportedly took note of the incident. Following the sighting, the duty officer of Kolkata Police alerted Lalbazar control, which in turn dispatched notifications to several local police stations. Officers from those stations attempted to visually track the objects, but low nighttime visibility limited their ability to gather concrete evidence. Whether the objects were indeed drones or something else remains under investigation.

Kolkata Police has opened communication with army authorities to examine the situation thoroughly. The mysterious timing and nature of the incident come at a moment when tensions in the region and at the national level are already heightened. It follows closely on the heels of the arrest of a Bangladeshi national in Kalimpong for illegal entry and growing national concern over unauthorized infiltration by foreign nationals, including citizens from Bangladesh and Pakistan, some of whom have been linked to espionage and surveillance networks.

Retired Army officer Colonel Rajendra Bhaduri, speaking to KalimNews, remarked, “It’s important to analyze what kind of drones they are and what their range might be. There is a possibility they could have originated from across the border, including Bangladesh, but it would be premature to speculate. However, if they are surveillance drones, the security implications are serious.”

Given Kolkata’s strategic importance as a defense and administrative hub in eastern India, the appearance of mysterious aerial objects is being treated with utmost seriousness. Intelligence agencies are working in coordination with local police and the armed forces to trace the source, purpose, and technology behind the objects.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has recently emphasized the importance of drone detection systems, especially around sensitive infrastructure and border states. While no hostile activity has been confirmed, the recent spate of incidents involving foreign nationals, coupled with sightings of unidentified drones, underscores the need for heightened vigilance and rapid modernization of aerial surveillance defenses.

Authorities continue to monitor the airspace closely, and a detailed investigation is underway to determine whether the incident was an isolated technological anomaly, a civilian misadventure, or a potential breach of national security.

As part of public transport enhancement, the Chief Minister also inaugurated six new Volvo buses. She is scheduled to continue her tour, which includes a visit to the Jagannath Temple in Digha, reinforcing her commitment to monitoring and accelerating development in diverse regions of the state.

These initiatives reflect a focused push toward infrastructure growth, rural development, education, health, and public utilities, aligning with the government’s broader agenda for inclusive progress in North Bengal.

High Court Special Bench Issues Rule Against Eight in Lawyer Harassment Case

Baby Chakraborty | KalimNews | May 19, 2025 | Kolkata : A special three-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court has issued a rule against eight individuals, including Kunal Ghosh, in connection with a case concerning the harassment of lawyers. The matter stems from allegations made by a group of job aspirants against advocates Vikas Ranjan Bhattacharya and Firdous Shamim. The complainants questioned the delay in hearings related to supernumerary posts and accused the advocates of harassment. Reports further allege that two junior lawyers associated with advocate Bhattacharya were shown shoes in a threatening manner and that derogatory slogans were raised against Justice Biswajit Basu.

Following these developments, a complaint was reportedly submitted to the Chief Justice regarding the incident. Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, upon taking cognizance, constituted a special bench comprising Justice Arijit Banerjee, Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj to address the matter. During Monday’s proceedings, the court noted that despite an earlier directive issued on May 2, none of the accused had complied with the court’s order. Justice Arijit Banerjee described the situation as “very serious,” emphasizing a broader concern about non-compliance with judicial orders.

Kunal Ghosh was present during the hearing. His counsel, advocate Biswaroop Bhattacharya, informed the court that an affidavit had been prepared and that there was no intentional defiance, attributing the delay to unspecified issues. He also asserted that Mr. Ghosh was not present at the protest site on the day of the alleged incident, as he was attending an event on an electronic media channel. Nevertheless, the special bench, expressing displeasure over the lack of response from the accused, proceeded to issue a rule against all individuals named in the case.

The matter remains under judicial consideration, and further proceedings are expected as per the High Court’s directive.

Yusuf Pathan Dropped from ‘Operation Sindoor’ Delegation, Trinamool’s Withdrawal Sparks Political Ripples

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, New Delhi, May 19, 2025 : A sudden political twist has emerged in the central government’s high-level diplomatic initiative, ‘Operation Sindoor’, with Trinamool Congress pulling its representative, Yusuf Pathan, from the all-party delegation scheduled for a foreign tour. The development has sparked a wave of speculation around the party’s position and its ties with the Centre.

On Saturday, the Ministry of External Affairs reportedly contacted Pathan directly and requested his passport for the upcoming diplomatic mission. However, by Sunday night, Trinamool had decided to withdraw him from the delegation, a move that has raised eyebrows both within political circles and among observers of India’s foreign policy maneuvers.

Though no formal explanation has been issued, party insiders suggest that Trinamool was irked by the Ministry bypassing internal party channels and directly approaching Pathan, a former cricketer and now a Member of Parliament from the party. This perceived breach of protocol has reportedly caused discomfort within the Trinamool leadership.

In response to the developments, Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien stated, “We are in favor of the country and national interests. But this is a matter for the International Diplomacy Center. Let them handle that.” Meanwhile, Trinamool’s All India General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, asserted the party’s autonomy in choosing its representatives. “Trinamool will decide who will represent the party, not the BJP. If we wish, we can nominate five people, but that decision lies with us. This is not a boycott,” he clarified. He also emphasized that Trinamool has not followed the path of complete non-participation like some other opposition parties.

The discontent appears not to be limited to Trinamool. The Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction) also expressed dissatisfaction, as party leader Uddhav Thackeray was reportedly not consulted before Priyanka Chaturvedi’s inclusion in the delegation. Senior Sena leader Sanjay Raut questioned the urgency and process behind the delegation’s formation, quipping, “Why is there such a rush to send this wedding party?”

The Centre’s seven-member delegation was formed to convey India’s stance globally in light of recent security concerns, including cross-border militancy and violence in Kashmir. With representatives from parties like the Congress, BJP, and NCP, the initiative was seen as a unified diplomatic front. However, Trinamool’s last-minute withdrawal is now being viewed by analysts as a subtle yet significant political signal that could influence future opposition-Centre dynamics.

CM Urges Legal Course Over Protest in Vikas Bhavan Recruitment Row

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews,

Kolkata, May 19, 2025 : Amid ongoing agitation over the Vikas Bhavan recruitment issue, West Bengal Chief Minister, currently visiting North Bengal, addressed the controversy with a measured response. When questioned by reporters, the Chief Minister expressed sympathy for those involved in the protest but urged respect for the judicial process.

“Please don’t ask me to talk about this issue. I have enough sympathy for them—always had and still do,” the Chief Minister said. He explained that a review petition has already been filed in court on behalf of the state government. “In court, certain rules must be followed. There are compulsions. We have filed the review petition. If it is accepted, it’s good. If the court delivers a verdict, we are bound to accept it. We cannot say we will not accept the court’s decision.”

He assured that, so far, no salaries have been stopped and added that even those in Group-C categories who may not be eligible for payments under the current situation are being supported through a special state scheme.

Responding to further questions, the Chief Minister expressed disappointment at what he described as politically motivated instigation behind the movement. “I feel bad about one thing—those who are instigating this are the very ones who filed the case. These jobs did not come to us. I would tell those on the verge of getting jobs, it could have been done without such action.”

Referring to those who had secured appointments and are now vocal in the protest, he remarked, “If those who got jobs become the flag-bearers of self-interest, I have an objection. They should have trusted the state government. I myself have held meetings with them. We expect a minimum level of respect and courtesy from teachers.”

He concluded by clarifying his stance on the protests: “I am not against the movement. But a movement must have its limits. I would say—rather than protesting on the streets, pursue the legal path.”

The Chief Minister’s comments come as the debate around recruitment irregularities and job security for aspiring candidates continues to dominate the political discourse in the state.

Bidhannagar Police Summon Jobless Protesters Over Bikash Bhavan Clash; Legal Action Intensifies

Baby Chakraborty | KalimNews | May 18, 2025 | Kolkata : The Bidhannagar Police have filed cases against several individuals involved in the May 16 protest outside Bikash Bhavan, accusing them of multiple serious offenses including rioting, assaulting public servants, destruction of government property, and criminal conspiracy. The protesters, primarily jobless teachers and education staff affected by the cancellation of the 2016 SSC panel, have been summoned to appear at the Bidhannagar North Police Station at 11 a.m. on May 21. The summons warns that failure to appear could result in arrest.

The protest on Thursday turned chaotic as thousands gathered outside the Education Department headquarters in Salt Lake, demanding reinstatement and other remedial action. Demonstrators allegedly broke through the main gate, staged a sit-in, and reportedly confined government staff inside the premises. Law enforcement officials claimed they exercised “minimum force” to disperse the crowd and assist trapped employees, during which a scuffle reportedly broke out.

According to official sources, the police have invoked several sections of the Indian Penal Code including criminal trespass, wrongful restraint and confinement, voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from duty, disobedience to official orders, assault or use of criminal force against public servants, criminal intimidation, and obstructing public functions. Sections under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act have also been applied. The summons issued to the protesters stated: “During the course of the investigation, it is revealed that you damaged government property and obstructed the public servant from his lawful duty and threatened the public servant from doing their duty, and there are also reasonable grounds to question you to ascertain facts and circumstances from you in relation to the present investigation.”

In a related move, Kolkata Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar Verma has directed all police stations under his jurisdiction to stay alert and prepared for similar situations in other parts of the city. He reportedly urged officials to exercise restraint and patience while dealing with protestors, aiming to avoid escalation while maintaining public order.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights has taken note of the situation and requested a report from Bidhannagar City Police. The commission’s intervention came after visuals emerged of minor students attending open-air classes on the road outside Bikash Bhavan, conducted by the protesting teachers under the banner of ‘Udayan Pandit er Pathshala’.

Protests continued for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday, with displaced teachers staging demonstrations outside the Education Department building. The protestors have remained defiant in the face of legal action. “They are doing all these to intimidate us. But we are not scared and will not stop our protest. They [the state government] did all the corruption, and now the police are issuing summons to us,” said one of the protesting teachers.

With legal proceedings underway and administrative preparations in motion, the situation remains tense as May 21 approaches, when the summoned individuals are expected to appear before the police for questioning.

Half-Burnt Body of Unidentified Man Found in Under-Construction Building in Bagbazar

Baby Chakraborty | KalimNews | May 18, 2025 | Kolkata : A sense of unease gripped the Bagbazar area of North Kolkata on Saturday morning following the recovery of a half-burnt body from an under-construction multi-storey building on Nivedita Lane. The incident, which occurred around 9:25 a.m., has sparked fresh concerns in the locality, coming just days after the discovery of a woman’s body stuffed in a trolley bag in the same general vicinity.

According to eyewitness accounts, smoke was still emanating from around the deceased when local residents noticed the body. They made initial attempts to douse the flames using water before alerting the authorities. Responding swiftly, personnel from the Shyampukur Police Station reached the location, recovered the body, and sent it for autopsy.

The identity of the deceased man, believed to be approximately 55 years old, remains unknown at this time. While the cause of death has not yet been confirmed, initial police suspicions suggest the possibility of murder, with the body allegedly set on fire in a suspected attempt to destroy evidence. Investigators have not ruled out other possibilities, including suicide, but circumstances surrounding the locked gate of the building have added complexity to the case.

The site remains under police examination, and forensic teams are expected to assist in gathering further evidence. No arrests have been made so far, and authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward as they work to piece together the sequence of events leading to the incident.

The case has caused significant alarm among residents, especially given the recent violent incident in the same area. Law enforcement has assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that maintaining safety and order in the locality remains a priority.

Digha’s New Jagannath Temple Draws Millions in First 15 Days; ISKCON Clarifies Role Amid Naming Controversy

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, May 17, 2025, Digha/Kolkata  : Digha, once known solely for its seaside allure, is fast emerging as a prominent religious destination in West Bengal. This transformation has been spearheaded by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, whose initiative led to the construction and recent inauguration of a new Jagannath Temple in the coastal town. Opened to the public on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, the temple has since witnessed an overwhelming influx of devotees.

In just 15 days since its opening, the temple has welcomed an estimated 20 lakh (two million) visitors, according to officials from ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness), the organization entrusted with conducting the temple’s rituals and daily worship. The sheer scale of footfall has led to long queues, reflecting the temple’s rapidly growing spiritual and cultural significance.

On Tuesday, the temple’s sole offering box was opened for the first time by ISKCON officials, revealing donations amounting to approximately one million rupees. The offering box is scheduled to be reopened next Tuesday, and temple authorities expect the collections to increase as the influx of devotees continues. In response to the high number of visitors and the volume of offerings, plans are underway to install additional offering boxes throughout the temple premises.

While ISKCON has taken over operational responsibilities related to worship, the organization has clarified its limited role within the larger governance structure of the temple. “We are just one of the 27 trustees of the Digha temple trust and do not have a decisive say in matters such as naming,” stated a senior ISKCON official.

The naming of the temple as “Jagannath Dham” has sparked controversy, particularly with religious authorities in Odisha. During the temple’s inauguration on April 30, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee referred to it as a “Dham,” a designation traditionally associated with the historic 12th-century Jagannath Temple in Puri. The Odisha government, along with two Shankaracharyas, have since expressed their objections, emphasizing that the title “Dham” should remain exclusive to the Puri temple.

Radharaman Das, Vice-President of ISKCON, reiterated the organization’s position, stating, “We are witnessing incredible devotion from people across Bengal and beyond, but ISKCON has no role in naming the temple. Our focus is purely spiritual—on worship, service, and the spread of devotion.”

Despite the controversy, the temple in Digha continues to draw thousands daily, becoming not only a major religious attraction but also a testament to the evolving cultural landscape of the region. With enhanced infrastructure and continued public interest, Digha’s Jagannath temple appears poised to remain a focal point of spiritual activity in the state.

“Anya Rabindranath” Musical Narrative Offers a Rare Tribute on Rabindra Jayanti

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, May 17, 2025, Kolkata :  In celebration of the 164th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore and the birth anniversary of legendary music maestro Gyan Prakash Ghosh, a remarkable cultural evening was hosted at the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Golpark, Kolkata.

Organized jointly by Anandi Communication Center and Rupsa literary magazine, the evening’s centerpiece was a musical narrative titled “Anya Rabindranath” (The Other Rabindranath), conceptualized, scripted, and directed by acclaimed music artist Indrani Bhattacharya. The performance featured a curated selection of 23 songs by Tagore, many of which are lesser-known treasures that illuminated the poet’s multifaceted creative expressions.

The soulful renditions were presented by a talented ensemble of vocalists, including Indrani Bhattacharya, Abhik Mallik, Sridhara Gupta, Shelly Biswas Bhattacharya, Dr. Surajit Roy, and Aditi Gupta. They were accompanied by a skilled team of instrumentalists—Subrata Mukhopadhyay, Premangshu Sen, Amitranjan Roy, and Gautam Ray—whose nuanced performances enriched the musical experience. The narrative elements were eloquently delivered by Antara Das and Manasi Raychaudhuri.

The latter half of the event featured heartfelt performances by Snigdhadeb Sengupta, dedicated to the memory of his revered guru, Gyan Prakash Ghosh. His renditions resonated with emotional depth and musical integrity.

A highlight of the evening was the felicitation of veteran Rabindra Sangeet artist and scholar Sagarmoy Bhattacharya. The honour was presented by Justice Ashok Ganguly, retired judge of the Supreme Court of India. The program was further graced by the presence of Swami Suparnananda Maharaj, Secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission, Golpark.

The evening was anchored with warmth and elegance by Sudipta Mukhopadhyay and Anandi Bhattacharya. The audience responded with repeated rounds of applause, expressing admiration for the exceptional performances and the overall presentation. The script, in particular, received widespread praise for its depth and originality.

What truly set the program apart was its focus on the lesser-known works of Tagore, offering a refreshing and profound insight into the vastness of his musical legacy. Indrani Bhattacharya’s thoughtful direction and artistic vision were deeply appreciated by all in attendance.

Adding to the sense of pride among the audience was the shared alma mater of Indrani Bhattacharya and Aditi Gupta—both alumni of South Point School—bringing a personal note of joy and inspiration to the evening.

Protests Intensify at Vikas Bhavan After Violent Clashes Between Teachers and Police

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, May 16, 2025, Kolkata:
The violent clash that unfolded at Vikas Bhavan  has sparked outrage across the state, with both teachers and police sustaining injuries amid escalating tensions. The incident, which unfolded throughout the day, has been condemned as a setback for civil discourse, as numerous teachers were reportedly beaten by police officers. Several protesters were injured, some severely, while a police officer was also hurt during the confrontations.

The protest began in the afternoon when the teachers and education workers broke through the gates of Vikas Bhavan, demanding the restoration of their jobs. Tensions escalated as the evening drew on, with protesters accusing the police of using excessive force, including lathi-charges, to disperse the crowd. The scene grew more chaotic as protesters lay bleeding on the ground, claiming that they were qualified teachers who had been unjustly denied employment. Their frustration boiled over, and many declared that they would not sit for exams again, making it clear that their only demand was the return of their jobs.

In the wake of the violent clash, lawyer Rajneel Mukherjee has called for suo motu action by the Calcutta High Court, appealing to the Chief Justice for an investigation into the actions of the Bidhannagar Commissionerate. Mukherjee accused the police of overreacting and unjustly assaulting the teachers, further stoking public anger against the law enforcement’s handling of the situation.

As the protests continued overnight outside Vikas Bhavan, the police were accused of inaction for several hours following an incident in Murshidabad, allowing the situation to deteriorate. The protesters, who remain camped outside the building, have vowed not to leave until the state government reinstates their jobs in a fair and transparent manner. Today, May 16, has been declared a day of protest, with demonstrations expected to persist throughout the day.

Meanwhile, tensions were further inflamed when Trinamool Congress leader Sabyasachi Dutta visited Vikas Bhavan this morning. Witnesses report that Dutta engaged in inappropriate behavior with both the protesting teachers and the media, further exacerbating the already volatile situation. Citizens across Kolkata have expressed their displeasure at the police’s actions, with widespread condemnation of the authorities’ response to the teachers’ peaceful demonstration.

The unrest shows no sign of abating, with protesters continuing to demand justice and the restoration of their jobs. The state government faces mounting pressure to address the grievances of the educators and resolve the standoff.

Unemployed Teachers Continue Protest in Kolkata Amid Rising Tensions and Clashes with Police

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, May 16, 2025, Kolkata: The protest by jobless teachers and education workers continued in Kolkata today, as they gathered in front of Vikas Bhavan despite yesterday’s tensions. On Thursday, protesters had clashed with police forces after breaking through the gates of the government building. In response, a large barricade was erected outside Vikas Bhavan. However, early this morning, the protesters forcibly removed the barricade, demonstrating their defiance in front of the police.

As the situation escalated, the protesters, who had gathered in large numbers, sat in defiance outside the building, shouting slogans demanding the reinstatement of their jobs. Their chants grew louder as they confronted the law enforcement officers stationed nearby. A heavy police presence has been maintained to control the situation, but the tension remained palpable.

The protests, which started peacefully, turned chaotic as the night wore on. Eyewitnesses reported clashes between the demonstrators and the police, with allegations of police using lathi charges on the protesters. In retaliation, some protesters reportedly threw bricks at the police, heightening the already volatile situation. Amidst the unrest, government employees at Vikas Bhavan were seen attempting to scale the walls in a bid to flee the scene, further angering the protesters. The police quickly intervened to stop them, which resulted in a brief but intense confrontation.

In the aftermath of the incidents, the police filed a suo motu case against the protesters, marking a new phase in the ongoing conflict. This morning, as tensions resurfaced, the protesters once again gathered in front of Vikas Bhavan, vowing to continue their sit-in protest until their demands for employment were met.

The protests are expected to persist throughout the day, with no clear resolution in sight. Local authorities have urged both sides to exercise restraint, but the situation remains tense as negotiations between the protesters and the government have yet to make any significant progress.

Legal Notice Sent to John Barla After Allegations Against Subhendu Adhikari

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, May 16, 2025, Kolkata : In a dramatic turn of events following his defection to the Trinamool Congress, former Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, John Barla, has found himself at the center of a legal dispute. Barla, who joined the ruling party on Thursday, used the occasion to launch a fierce attack on his former political associate, Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Subhendu Adhikari. Barla’s accusations, made during a press conference, have since triggered a swift legal response from Subhendu, who has sent a legal notice demanding an apology.

At the heart of the controversy are Barla’s claims that Subhendu blocked his efforts to build a Rs 160 crore hospital on railway land, a project Barla said he had fully funded. According to Barla, his initiative to help the people was thwarted by the Opposition Leader, whom he accused of interfering with the development project for political reasons. Barla’s comments stirred significant outrage, especially among the BJP and its supporters, as he openly accused Subhendu of standing in the way of progress.

In response, Subhendu Adhikari has taken immediate legal action. Through his lawyer, Subhendu has dismissed Barla’s allegations as “baseless” and “completely false.” The legal notice demands that Barla issue an unconditional public apology to Subhendu in writing. Furthermore, the notice warns Barla to refrain from making any further defamatory remarks about Subhendu in any forum—whether political, governmental, or private—urging him to cease all such comments immediately.

Barla’s sudden shift to Trinamool and his scathing remarks against Subhendu have sparked a wider political controversy, drawing attention to internal rifts within the BJP and the larger political dynamics of West Bengal. With tensions running high, Subhendu’s decision to pursue legal action underscores the personal and political stakes involved. As the situation continues to unfold, all eyes are now on whether Barla will comply with the legal notice or escalate the confrontation further.

Hindu Mahasabha Stages Historic Rally in Kolkata Demanding Independent Balochistan

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, May 15, 2025, Kolkata :  In a bold display of solidarity with the people of Balochistan, the Hindu Mahasabha organized a protest rally and roadshow in Kolkata today, advocating for an independent Balochistan and condemning the ongoing atrocities committed by Pakistan against the region. The rally, led by State President Dr. Chandrachud Goswami, took place near Uttam Kumar Metro Station in Tollygunge and saw participation from about fifty members of the political organization.

Dr. Goswami, addressing the crowd, fiercely criticized Pakistan for its treatment of Balochistan, which he described as a Muslim-majority region under brutal occupation. “Although Pakistan talks about Muslim brotherhood, for many years they have been brutally abusing the Muslim-dominated country of Balochistan. They are destroying the dignity of their women,” he stated. The leader also pointed out that Balochistan is critical to Pakistan’s economy, stating, “Dishonest Pakistan should remember that ninety percent of their country’s economy is dependent on Balochistan.”

The Hindu Mahasabha’s support for Balochistan’s independence is not new. Dr. Goswami confirmed that the Mahasabha had reached out to the United Nations, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and the leader of Balochistan, Mir Yasir Baloch, urging them to take action for the cause of the Baloch people. “We stand by our Baloch brothers with the last drop of blood in our chest,” Goswami declared.

Other prominent leaders from the Hindu Mahasabha also took the stage, adding weight to the cause. Dr. Surath Chakraborty, a senior member, emphasized that the liberation of Balochistan is crucial to weakening Pakistan’s control over terrorists. “Only if Balochistan is liberated can Pakistani terrorists be suppressed militarily and economically,” Chakraborty argued. He further criticized the Pakistani state, which he said is now under the control of terrorists.

Pandit Subhash Singh Roy, another Mahasabha leader, underscored the historical and cultural ties between India and Balochistan. “Hindustani classical music has established a spiritual connection with Indian soil and our former state of Balochistan for ages,” Roy said. The protest also drew attention to religious sentiments, with Mahasabha Office Secretary Anamika Mandal highlighting the presence of the revered Sati Peeth of Marutirtha Hinglaj in Balochistan. “We Sanatanis must have been specially associated with Balochistan in terms of religious sentiments for many ages,” Mandal added.

Among the many speakers at the event, the words of State Committee members like Manoj Chatterjee, Seema Dutt, and Kajal Halder resonated deeply with the audience. Their speeches inspired widespread enthusiasm and participation.

The rally culminated with Dr. Goswami hoisting the flag of an independent Balochistan, accompanied by the national anthem of Balochistan, performed by the cultural team of the Mahasabha, including Soma De, Lipa Pal, Debangshu Dutta, and Debasrita Dutta.

In a symbolic gesture of support, the participants of the historic roadshow expressed their solidarity for Balochistan and called on the United Nations and Indian leadership to recognize the demand for an independent Balochistan. The streets of Kolkata echoed with slogans of support for the Baloch people, marking a significant moment of political expression and international solidarity in the ongoing struggle for Balochistan’s independence.

Supreme Court Set to Hear Long-Pending DA Case of Bengal Government Employees on Friday

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, May 15, 2025,

Delhi: After years of delays and repeated adjournments, the dearness allowance (DA) case concerning West Bengal state government employees is finally set for a crucial hearing in the Supreme Court on Friday. The case, which holds immense importance for thousands of state employees, has been entangled in legal proceedings for over two years, despite employees securing favorable verdicts at every stage of the judicial process.

Originally sparked by disputes surrounding the recommendations of the Pay Commission, the matter progressed from the State Administrative Tribunal to the Calcutta High Court and eventually reached the Supreme Court. Throughout this legal journey, state government employees have consistently prevailed, bolstering hopes for a conclusive outcome.

The case’s trajectory in the Supreme Court has been particularly complex due to frequent changes in the composition of the bench. It was initially heard in 2022 by Justices Dinesh Maheshwari and Hrishikesh Roy. The last hearing took place on April 28, 2023, under Justices Maheshwari and Sanjay Kumar. However, with the subsequent retirement of Justices Maheshwari and Roy, the case faced further delays and uncertainty.

Despite yet another adjournment on Wednesday, optimism surged following confirmation from Advocate Vikas Ranjan Bhattacharya that the matter is now scheduled for a final hearing this Friday. Speaking to reporters, Bhattacharya said, “The DA case was scheduled at 2 p.m. today. We were all present, but due to some special reasons, the court could not take it up. On our request, the hearing has been rescheduled to Friday. This time, the case will not be adjourned. We expect the final hearing to take place.”

As anticipation builds, government employees across the state are hopeful that the verdict—if delivered this week—will finally bring closure to a case that has long affected their financial entitlements.

Arjun Singh Calls Migrant Bengali Voters ‘Game Changers’ in Bengal, Bihar Elections

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, May 15, 2025, Kolkata :  In the run-up to crucial elections in Bihar later this year and West Bengal in 2026, BJP leader and former MP Arjun Singh has stirred the political pot with a strong appeal aimed at mobilizing Bengali voters living outside the state. Speaking alongside Union Minister of State Satish Chandra Dubey, Singh claimed that voters from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar—especially Bengalis who have migrated for work—could significantly influence the outcome of the West Bengal Assembly elections.

Addressing party workers and supporters, Singh urged that steps be taken to ensure that Bengalis residing in Bihar and other states return to Bengal to cast their votes during the upcoming state elections. In return, he suggested that those who are voters in Bihar but currently living in Bengal should go back to vote in their home constituencies during the Bihar elections. “All these Bengalis should be sent to Bengal to vote. And those who are voters in Bihar, they will go from Bengal and vote in Bihar. If this can be done, then BJP is sure to win in both states,” Singh asserted.

The former MP described these migrant voters as “game changers” and emphasized the need for their mobilization to secure a favorable outcome for the Bharatiya Janata Party in both states. He appealed directly to Union Minister Satish Chandra Dubey to coordinate efforts in this regard. Singh’s remarks align with previous statements made by BJP leader Shuvendu Adhikari, who has consistently advocated for strong outreach efforts and emphasized religious identity in political strategy.

Stressing the need for action beyond rhetoric, Singh urged party workers to take to the ground rather than rely solely on speeches and public addresses. Drawing a parallel with national defense, he stated, “The BJP’s defense system should be strengthened. Just as the Prime Minister strengthened the defense system and taught Pakistan a lesson in three hours by sitting in India, similarly the BJP’s defense system should be strengthened.”

His comments reflect a broader strategy by the BJP to consolidate support across state borders and tap into the influence of migrant voters, positioning them as a critical element in the upcoming electoral battles in both Bihar and West Bengal.
