Kolkata, June 15, 2025 : The nation is still reeling from a shocking series of murders that have dominated headlines, and another chilling case has now emerged from Singli district in Maharashtra. A newlywed woman is accused of brutally murdering her husband just 15 days after their marriage. The victim, identified as 53-year-old Anil Lokhande, was allegedly hacked to death by his 27-year-old wife, Radhika, using an axe.Anil Lokhande, who had previously lost his first wife to cancer, had recently married Radhika, and the couple seemed to start their new life full of hope. However, what appeared to be a fresh beginning quickly turned into tragedy. Police investigations have revealed that Anil began pressuring Radhika for physical relations almost immediately after their marriage, a demand that reportedly frustrated and upset her. The significant age difference between the two, with Anil being nearly twice Radhika’s age, further strained their relationship.
According to the police, the couple got married on May 23 in Maharashtra’s Sangli district.
On Tuesday night, the two fought aggressively, following which the victim, Anil Lokhande, went to sleep around midnight.
In a fit of rage, the woman, Radhika Lokhande, picked up an axe and hit her husband on the head, officials said. He died on the spot.
Minutes later, Radhika called her cousin and informed about the crime she committed.
Radhika, feeling increasingly uncomfortable and distressed by her husband’s repeated requests, reached a breaking point. On the night of Wednesday, June 13, she allegedly took an axe while Anil was asleep beside her and struck him multiple times. The assault was so brutal that Anil died on the spot.
The neighbors alerted the authorities early the next morning after they heard screams, and police officers swiftly arrived at the scene. Upon investigation, they arrested Radhika and initiated questioning. A case has been filed against her under several sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The police arrested Radhika on Wednesday and sent her to a two-day police custody, officials said. A case has been registered against her under Section 103 (1) of the BNS (murder).
Preliminary investigation indicates family discord to be the reason behind the murder.
